SKINFOOD Beauty In A Food Mask – Horse Fat

SKINFOOD Beauty In A Food Mask – Horse Fat sheet mask is something very unusual I’ve stumbled across in last weeks. It was not expensive and I am not squeamish about the ingredient so I decided to give it a go.

Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ A beauty mask sheet that contains rich nutrients and moisturizing ingredients to make skin moist and smooth.
❇ Horse fat are called Maya in Korea which contain fatty acids which are similar to human oil (sebum), this mean maya can penetrate quickly into the skin comparing with other ingredient.

Directions from the manufacturer:

After cleansing, use a toner to refine skin texture. Place mask on entire face, avoiding eyes and lips. After about 10-20 minutes, remove the sheet and lightly pat to absorb the remaining essence.

Ingredients:

Purified Water, Glycerin, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Polyglyceryl-3 Methyl Glucoside Distearate, Butylen Glycol, Horse fat (40 Mg), Alcohol, Arginine, Acrylate / C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Hamamelis Virginiana Extract, Carbomer, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Disodium EDTA, Macadamia Seed Oil, Cholesterol, 1,2- Hexanediol, Ceramide NP, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Tocopherol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

My experience:
contents

The biggest issue for me was the sheet. It allowed all the essence to drip down my chin so to me it felt more of a boob mask rather than a face mask. For the rest this mask turned out to be a pretty good one and worth buying again.

The mask comes in a orange packaging with horse’s head on the picture. The essence is enriched with horse oil/fat and I was very careful opening the package because I didn’t know what to expect. To my surprise the essence in the bag was fragranced with something herbal and flowery so there were no traces of any kind of animal smells. Essence itself was milky white and had a nice slip to it. After applying the mask on the face I kept it on for 20 minutes and then removed.

applied

I can’t tell that much magic has happened but it was definitely not a bad experience. My face was well moisturized, it had a slight sheen to it leaning towards more oily finish. There ws no tackiness or stickiness to it. Once I woke up I saw that my skin was well moisturized and had a more even tone. I liked the look of it so I was running around doing my stuff with zero make-up on. I am intrigued by the horse fat ingredient and will be looking some more into it.

Summary:

Pros:
+ Pleasant scent and formula of the essence
+ Good skin rejuvenating results
+ Great hydrating mask
+ Interesting concept ingredient
+ Silicon, paraben and sulfate free formula

Cons:
– Drippy
– Hard to find in NL
– Would like to see a better quality sheet on this mask
– Contains fragrance and alcohol

Laneige Lip Sleeping mask (Berry)

Laneige Lip Sleeping mask is a very raved product on the web. I was avoiding testing it for as long as I could but with the latest hot summer my lips are chappier than they’ve ever been so I had to purchase it. Here is what I think of the Berry version of the sleeping mask.

Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ Lip Sleeping Mask has a softening balm texture that closely adheres to lips for quick absorption.
❇ Enriched with vitamin C and antioxidants, its Berry Mix Complex™ offers a nutritiously sweet and fragrant blend of raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, and blueberry extracts to indulge the senses.
❇ Exclusive Moisture Wrap™ technology boasts hyaluronic acid and minerals to form a protective film over the lips to lock in moisture and active ingredients.
❇ A generous layer of this soothing mask at bedtime helps reduce flakiness so you can wake up to lips that feel refreshed, supple, and soft to the touch.
❇ An exclusive technology that features a mineral network of moisture-rich beta-glucan to form an 8-hour time-release moisturizing layer over skin. It locks in active ingredients and mineral water.
❇ Rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants from a nutritious blend of raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, goji berries and blueberries, Berry Mix Complex soothes and softens, revealing smooth, supple lips.

Directions from the manufacturer:

Apply a liberal amount to your lips with the spatula at night. Gently wipe your lips clean with a tissue the next morning to remove dead skin cells.

Ingredients:

Diisostearyl Malate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Phytosteryl/Isostearyl/Cetyl/Stearyl/Behenyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Hydrogenated C6-14 Olefin Polymers, Polybutene, Microcrystalline Wax, Shea Butter, Synthetic Wax, Candelilla Wax, Sucrose Tetrastearate Triacetate, Hydrogenated Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer, Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer, Mica, Astrocaryum murumuru Seed Butter, Titanium Dioxide, Dimethicone, Aromatics, Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate, Dehydroacetic Acid, Methicone, Carnauba Wax, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, CI 15985, CI 15850, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Water, Potassium Alginate, Propanediol, Glycerin, Alcohol, Lycium Fruit Extract, Cranberry Fruit Extract, Strawberry Fruit Extract, Raspberry Fruit Extract, Sapindus mukurossi Fruit Extract, Blueberry Fruit Extract,  Rubus chamaemorus Seed Extract, Coffee Extract, Chenopodium quinoa Seed Extract, Magnesium Sulfate, Calcium Chloride, Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta-Glucan, Manganese Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Ascorbyl Glucoside

My experience:

The Lip Sleeping Mask from Laneige is available in 4 different scents: Vanilla, Berry, Grapefruit and Apple-Lime. These lip products claim to gently melt away the dead skin layer and to repair dry lips overnight. The little plastic jar contains 20 grams of product. There are also mini travel versions available in the web that have 3 grams respectively.

The packaging of this is very pretty. The container is made of matte plastic and the lid matches the color of the outside packaging. The spatula applicator of the berry lip mask is also the same color as the paper box the mask comes in. Inside the jar there is an opaque pink cream that looks like wax at the first glance but has a very soft texture. It resembles those vaseline-based lip glosses that melt over your lips and are not tacky to the touch.

I used this mask for 2 weeks daily and to be honest I don’t see much improvement in condition of my lips. And yes I drink around 4 liters of water per day so I am not dehydrated if you wee wondering that it may be the cause. What I did notice is that my lips were smoother to the touch. Unfortunately chapping part was not influenced at all. I tried to use the lip peeling scrub and the sleeping lip mask together before going to sleep. No success there either.

I am somewhat disappointed in this product. I  guess reading all the reviews online made me think it is a miracle product which it is absolutely not. Not for me at least. From my previous buys I can say with 100% certainty that the classic lanolin-based lip balm and madecanol balm work much better than Laneige when it comes to the lip care. I will still use this product but more as a daily lip gloss. Wil lI repurchase it?? No.

Pros:
+ Paraben and sulfate free formulaiton
+ Rich in antioxidants and hyaluronic acid
+ Nice amount of product in the jar
+ Beautiful packaging + bonus spatula for hygienic application
+ Softens lips without making them tacky

Cons:
– Contains alcohol and silicones
– Does very little to the lips in terms of hydration and moisture retention
– Expensive for a lip balm quality product

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: littlewonderland.nl and bol.com
❇ Internationally: Available at sephora, laneige.com and amazon
❇ Price is 18,95€ per 20 ml jar of product

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Ascophyllum Nodosum Extract, Epilobium Angustifolium Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Honey Extract, Methylpropanediol, Pullulan, Cellulose Gum, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Xanthan Gum, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Sodium Hyaluronate, Disodium EDTA

My experience:

To be honest I bought this mask for the purpose of testing something new out. I was 90% sure that it would be a 1 time deal for me. Being almost a “hater” of all the products containing honey, propolis etc, I was veeery skeptical about this mask. Nothing related to honey is ever working well on my skin and I am left with a tacky mess I have to wash off in the end. I was so wrong judging this gorgeous thing by it’s cover!

The packaging on this mask is very simple. Big bold letters telling you what it will do, good English description on the back. Everything was ok, but not too memorable. Once I opened the pack I smelled Elizabeth Arden Green Tea perfume-like scent. I was waiting for typical syrupy artificial honey fumes that you so often sniff from similar products. I was immediately happy the scent was light and fresh instead of suffocating honey smell.

The sheet of this mask is made from felt-like fabric. Very similar in quality to my Blithe Blue Zone Marine Mask that I absolutely love. The serum on this mask is very gel-like. It doesn’t drip anywhere and ensures mess-free application. The fit and adherence of the sheet were great. Fabric is well saturated with the transparant essence solution and managed to stay on my face through my cooking routine.

I kept the sheet on for full 20 minutes and noticed that it was just the right amount of time before edges started to dry out a bit. After the mask was removed I tapped the left essence into my skin and it reminded me of the ampoule consistency. Not watery, well absorbing, not sticky, not greasy but pleasantly light on the skin.  I tried to put my BB cream over it and was instantly shocked how well is this mask acting as a base for my make-up.  Next time I see this beauty in the store, I will definitely grab one more pack. My skin is radiant and plumpy, plus great make-up application afterwards that lasted me for an entire day! You don’t have to tell me twice 😉

Summary:

Pros:
+ Smells like green tea
+ Great at plumping skin
+ Paraben, sulfate and alcohol free formula
+ Contains hyaluronic acid
+ Very hydrating and at the same time calming for the skin
+ Great to use under your make-up
+ Ampoule-like essence that is not runny or tacky

Cons:
– Contains fragrance
– Simple packaging (Too simple?)
– Hard to find in EU shops

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: TKmaxx shops
❇ Internationally: Available at walmart and jocottbrands
❇ Price varies between 10 and 15 € per box of 5 masks

Blithe Blue Abalone mask is a truly great hydrating mask for weekly maintenance. The mask is made of high quality fabric and has an essence that doesn’t drip much. The essence is transparant and has a little grip to it. Great formulation that doesn’t leave a tacky film on my face. There is also plenty essence left in the bag to cover my entire legs!

The sheet fit and adherence are also superb! I can multitask easily when I wear this mask. I usually apply it for 20 minutes and just do my household chores or sit and drink coffee and read a book when I’m in the mood for it.  After those 20 minutes my skin is transformed from being a dry prune back into being a wonderful juicy grape 🙂 It is hydrated, plumpy, bright, calmed and much more.

I would not advise to use this mask before yo want to use your make-up. It won’t sit over the essence that is left on the skin. Try using it before going to sleep and enjoy the fresh and glowing skin in the morning instead! Absolute love of mine that I can’t stop recommending to anyone. It is great for all the skin types suffering from dehydrated/dry/flaky skin. The scent on this is so light that you could tolerate it without any problems even if you have a super sensitive skin.

Pumpkin mask (Soothing + Brightening) by BLING POP

A while ago I have stumbled across this sheet mask on the bol.com and wanted to try it out because so far there were no pumpkin masks in my arsenal. Pumpkin mask by BLING POP looked like a good way to expand my masking horizons.

Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ Contained pumpkin extract  that helps to reveal skin to looks smoother, younger, radiant and revitalized.

(Could grammar be any better on the packaging….)

Directions from the manufacturer:

Smooth the skin texture with a toner after washing face. Apply mask onto face, smoothing and spreading evenly onto facial contours. Remove the mask after 15-20 minutes. Gently massage any excess essence into the skin.

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Methylpropanediol, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Fruit Extract, Paeonia Lactiflora Root Extract, Convallaria Majalis Bulb/Root Extract, Magnolia Kobus Branch/Flower/Leaf Extract, Lilium Candidum Flower Extract, Ipomoea Purpurea Extract, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Polysorbate 80, Ethylhexylglycerin, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Arginine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol

My experience:

I’ve officially tried it all :))) At least I think I did. Tomato, potato, snail mucin, kelp, seaweed, bean, beet, carrot, you name it. Been there, done that! Only the pumpkin mask was left on my botanical “to do (mask) list”.

I stumbled across the bling pop mask on the bol.com and was wondering whether to try it or not. Guess what I’ve decided? The pumpkin mask comes in the bright colorful girly packaging which catches the eye even across the room. Upon opening the pack, there is a slight flowery-fruity scent that is somewhat strong but after 10 minutes you don’t notice it anymore. The sheet is made of thick cotton which is surprisingly soft.

Application of the sheet was easy-breezy. I was left with some extra folds here and there but it staid on my face the entire 15 minutes that I was cooking pasta. Once I removed the sheet there was some essence left on my skin which felt slightly oily. The second thing I noticed was that my skin felt tighter and firmer.

I can not say anything about the smoothing and brightening since it was too dark and my skin was in pretty good condition that day. It did feel hydrated, but not too much. Since I applied this mask late in the evening I didn’t mind the oily’ish feel and just put my night serum over it for extra conditioning of my skin. This sheet mask did not break me out.

Pros:
+ Alcohol, sulfate and paraben free formula
+ Contains vitamine E and flower extracts
+ Suitable for oily, combination, normal and dry skin types
+ Clean fruity-flowery fragrance
+ Hydrating and plumping on my skin
+ Good fit of the sheet on my face

Cons:
– Contains fragrance
– Careful if you have sensitive skin, may irritate you
– Price differences per sheet mask are very big

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: Available at bol.com
❇ Internationally: Available at cosmetica-fanatica and dorasommer
❇ Price varies between 3-8€ per sheet

Cicaherb Restore Mask by E Nature

E Nature’s Cicaherb Restore Mask is by far one of the best skin calming masks that I’ve tried. Now that my skin is angry at me after my philosophy peel it is a perfect time to review it for you!

Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ Calming sheet mask
❇ Replenishes the skin and soothes redness or inflammation
❇ Centella asiatica and madecassoside help reduce irritation
❇ Made with Skin-Fit felt fabric, an eco-friendly and bio-degradable material with superior adhesiveness that delivers the essence ingredients thoroughly
❇ Best for all skin types
❇ Paraben-free, mineral oil-free, artificial fragrance-free, cruelty-free, vegan, recyclable packaging, skin safety tested
❇ 25 g / 0.8 oz

Directions from the manufacturer:

Remove film and apply mask on cleansed face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes, then remove gently. Do not rinse. Pat the remaining serum into the skin until fully absorbed.

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Methylpropanediol, Propanediol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Glyceryl Acrylate/acrylic Acid Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Pvm/ma Copolymer, Trehalose, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Panthenol, Carbomer, Arginine, Disodium Edta, Allantoin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Madecassoside, Centella Asiatica Extract, 1,2-hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (licorice) Root Extract, Schizandra Chinensis Fruit Extract, Coptis Japonica Root Extract, Zingiber Officinale (ginger) Root Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Citrus Grandis (grapefruit) Seed Extract, Acorus Calamus Root Extract, Perilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract, Natural Fragrance

My experience:

I have tried quite few masks containing Centella Asiatica plant extract. To be honest with you, this mask from E Nature is by far my most favorite one.  The mask comes in a simple white packaging with green writing on it. Is it attractive? Maybe not, but yet again, what is inside the pack is well worth the purchase.

I have just recently come back from my trip and my skin was so dried out and not happy with the fact that I was so much in the sun. I needed some harsh resurfacing to get rid of the old dead skin cells so I prompted to my old faithful facial peeling kit from Philosophy. After the peel my skin is usually very red and tight so I go for some Chamomile, Lavender or Centella masks because they all help my skin to bounce into it’s normal shape and feel. Plus all of them are kind of anti-ceptic so I don’t break out the next day after my peel.

The sheet mask inside the pack has a plastic protecting layer to make the application easier. Since I am used to thin-sheeted face masks having no plastic layers it was kind of an overkill for me. If you are not a frequent thin sheet masks user, this plastic divider will definitely be helpful in the application process. Cicaherb mask has somewhat herbal scent to it that irritates my nose-buds. to me the scent is pleasant and unpleasant at the same time. Nonetheless, I can live with it.

Once applied, my face felt an immediate relief. There was no tingling or burning anymore and my skin started to cool off. Since the sheet is very saturated I was able to keep this mask on for good 30 minutes. Even then, after the removal, sheet of the mask was still damp. There was zero residue left on my face. My skin felt velvety smooth and had no tackiness to it. Nearly all of the redness has subsided. Very impressive! I was left with irritation free, hydrated, smooth skin. Will definitely try the other masks from the E Nature brand.

For now I am super happy with this one, will definitely buy more of these.

Pros:
+ Alcohol, paraben, sulfate free formula
+ Packed with antioxidants and anti-ageing ingredients
+ Meets it’s claims 100%
+ Perfect for red, angry, acne prone skin
+ Amazing fit and adherence to my face
+ Eco-friendly & bio-degradable sheet

Cons:
– Natural fragrance is still, khm-khmm, a fragrance
– Light medicinal scent which I am personally not a big fan of

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: littlewonderland , boozyshop and bol.com
❇ Internationally: Available at enature.us
❇ Price is +/- 3€ per mask or 24€ per box of 10

Birch Juice Hydro Sleeping Pack Travel Kit by E Nature

Summer is a perfect time for some travel approved skin care posts. Luggages can get lost, things from the inside can be stolen, glass packaging often breaks or opens inside the suitcase. All the reasons for me to ty out some new and travel-friendly. I usually try not to take too much of the products with me on my trips and I always go for something small that would last me week or two on my trips. A good example of the travel skin care is the Birch Juice Hydro Sleeping Pack Travel Kit by E Nature.

Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ Travel-friendly set containing two mini-sized Birch Juice Hydro Sleeping Pack
❇ Hydrating and nourishing formula containing 74% birch tree sap instead of regular H2O to boost moisturizing power
❇ Improves skin elasticity and calms irritated skin
❇ For all skin types (especially dry, normal, and sensitive skin)
❇ Paraben-free, mineral oil-free, artificial fragrance-free, cruelty-free, vegan, recyclable packaging, skin safety tested
❇ (18 ml / 0.6 oz) *2

Directions from the manufacturer:

Apply an appropriate amount to the skin at night and let it absorb overnight. Rinse off with lukewarm water in the morning.

Ingredients:

Betula platyphylla japonica juice, Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Cyclopentasiloxane, Butylene glycol, Glycereth-26, Glycerin, PEG/PPG-18/4 copolymer, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan oleate, Betaine, Ethyl hexanediol, Dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, Glyceryl caprylate, Trehalose, Fragrance, Xanthan gum, Disodium EDTA, Carthamus tinctorius (safflower) oleosomes, Chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, Plantago ovata seed extract, Tocopheryl acetate, Hydrogenated lecithin, Polyglyceryl-10 stearate, Panthenol, Sodium ascorbyl phosphate, Glyceryl arachidonate, Glyceryl linolenate, Biotin, Folic acid, Pyridoxine, Cyanocobalamin

My experience:

E Nature’s Birch Juice Hydro Sleeping Pack is doing very little to my skin. I took it to the test run to the sunny Cape Verde and was quite disappointed with this product.

The manufacturer claims that this specific sleeping mask is intensely hydrating sleeping product due to the birch juice and other hydrating ingredients. Don’t want to upset anyone, but my daily clear cream (the completely transparant one) by MISSHA which is also birch juice based was doing a better job in terms of moisturizing an hydrating my skin. If you have a dry or very dry skin it would probably do nothing to your skin at all.

I do like that it contains 18 ml of product in it. Quite a good amount for the price. On the other hand it is still too much for a product that does so little. When it comes to the packaging, it is made very bulky making it look bigger than what the actual content is. I presume it is a traditional Korean style because few other “travel/mini” products from the brands like Laneige and MISSHA use similar if not the same jars. For me as a traveller, the size does matter. The smaller the container, the better it is for stashing it in my travel cosmetic bag.

You may wonder about how this cream actually looks and applies. The cream has a white gel consistency and has one of the thiner formulations that I’ve encountered so far. It is not entirely runny, but if I place a blob (pea size amount) of it on my skin it quickly slides down my face or drips off it. Sensitive skin people, be warned, this cream has a strong scent! It reminds me of a mixture of citronella and herbs. It feels like one of those masking type fragrances that are used to neutralize unwanted odors. The smell stays on your skin for a very long time, I could still sense it in the morning.

Upon wakening the scent was pretty much the only thing remaining on my face. Every morning when I used it I was left with mediocre hydration. It seemed that the cream just had enough moisturizing power in it that kept my skin from entirely drying out overnight in an air conditioned room. As for the other claims such as soothing, calming e.t.c. No results there at all. Zero. Nada. Null. Overall conclusion for this cream? Pass!!!

Pros:
+ Sulfate, paraben and alcohol free formulation
+ Main ingredient is Birch juice and not water
+ Contains vitamine E, Biotin, Folic Acid and Lecithin
+ Light texture that absorbs easily into the skin
+ Doesn’t break me out the next morning
+ Handy to take with you on a journey

Cons:
– Contains strong fragrance
– Very liquid formula for a sleeping mask
– Very little to no results on my skin the next day
– May not be suitable for very sensitive skin
– Packaging is quite bulky for the contents

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: littlewonderland.nl
❇ Internationally: Available at amazon and enature.us
❇ Price is +/- 10€ per two 18ml jars
