MISSHA Embo Gels: Part 1 Nourishing-Bomb mask

I have recently purchased several embo-gel sheet masks from the brand MISSHA and I would like to share my experience with you. I will create 5 posts for you each  dedicated to 1 mask.

How I decided that Embo Gel masks from MISSHA were worth trying out:
Well first of all I was looking for a new hydrogel mask to try out. Hydrogel as a material which is nowadays widely popular in masking industry.  According to the “sheet mask science” it makes skin soak in the essence for longer period of time (20-40 minutes). Impressive! As a comparison, a standard cotton sheet mask is drying out on your face within 10-20 minutes, depending on the mask. Hence, theoretically, with hydrogel your skin is absorbing more of that healthy essence from the mask. Fun fact: same hydrogel material is used in treating the burn wounds.

Previously I was never capable of finding these on a budget. I did try several high-end hydrogel masks but keeping that hobby is quite overwhelming for your wallet. Until lately, everything I came across in the Dutch webshops had a price tag above the 5€ per mask. (I am talking here about the Lancome, Whamisa and many more). This time my mission was to try out a mask that would fall within the 5€ range.

After some good googling MISSHA Embo Gels seemed to be a good way to start. Surprisingly there were not a lot of reviews about these masks on the internet so I took a gamble. Embo Gels from MISSHA have 5 subtypes of masks, each oen of theme with their own bombastic features.

These are:
❇ Water-full Bomb
❇ Vital Bomb
❇ Shining Bomb
❇ Nourishing bomb
❇ Relaxing Bomb

I  grabbed them all for the test.  After waiting patiently for them to be delivered I got my hands on the nourishing one first.

Claims from the manufacturer:
❇ No mesh-type of transparent hydro gel. Is adhered to the skin without irritating
❇ Containing nourishing complex which consists of collagen, ceramide and honey extract. It makes your skin shiny and healthy.
❇ Containing abundant essence in the special embossed texture supplies effectively the active ingredient to the skin

Directions:
After washing the face, prepare the skin with toner. Remove films from the both side of sheets after opening the pouch. Placing the embo side onto the skin, spread evenly the upper part from the eyes and the lower part from the lips. Leave it for 20-40 minutes and remove masks. Pat leftover essence lightly to be fully absorbed.

Ingredients:
Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Agar, Carrageenan, Mannan, Dextrin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Betaine, Allantoin, Panthenol, Honey Extract, Ceramide NP, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Sodium Polyacrylate, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Gaprylyl Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Ethylhyxylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

My experience:
The mask itself is translucent and has one side that is smooth and the other side is ribbed or as they say – embossed. I took the mask out of it’s pack and removed the safety film preventing the folded sides of the mask from sticking to one another. To my surprise mask had a top and the bottom halves. After some wiggling and giggling I slammed them on with the embossed side onto my face. Instantly I felt that my face is getting cooler. I kept it on for full 40 minutes. Mask had a light medicinal scent that wasn’t overpowering and disappeared after couple of minutes of wear.

I can not describe how much I loved this mask. My face was super-smooth and hydrated after I removed the gel and tapped the leftover of the essence into my skin. There was no sticky residue left within 20 minutes, which I found was incredible!!! My face looked instantly brighter, shinier and my angry red tiny acne scars on my forehead and chin have almost disappeared. I didn’t use any other moisturizers and just put my mascara on and I was good to go. Normally I would use some bb-cream or tinted moisturizer to even out my skin but on the day I tested the mask it was not necessary.

To summarize, it was definitely a good experience for me. Mask was a superb quality  for it’s price and preformed well in comparison to it’s more expensive hydrogel mask I’ve tried so far. My skin felt plump and nourished. Well done MISSHA’s Nourishing bomb, I will be definitely purchasing you again!!! Let’s hope it’s brother’s and sisters show me the same courtesy of “awesome”.

Pros:
+ Extremely good fit due to 2 parts of the mask.
+ Remarkable adherence to the face-no need to lay down with this one, it adheres better to the face the longer it’s on
+ Very moisturizing and plumping effect that lasted all day
+ Reduces redness of the skin and smooths down the imperfections in dry areas of the skin
+ No sticky residue left after removing the mask
+ Fragrance is not overpowering and is last ingredient on the list

Cons:
– Still more pricy than the regular cotton/bamboo sheet mask
– Contains fragrance if you are sensitive to it

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: bbcreamshop.eu and littlewonderland.nl
❇ Internationally: Plenty of retailers such as roseroseshop and amazon have these continuously in stock.
❇ Price: Usually varies between 3-5€ per mask.

illi HANBANG bio intensive moisture Camellia Oil Nourishing Mask

Last month I’ve purchased the illi Camelia  oil nourishing mask as a part of a monthly sheet mask subscription box (Wonder box) from the Dutch littlewonderland webshop. I wanted to try this brand for a very long time but I was never able to find any of these masks in the retail within my reach (I know, I know, Korean websites sell it but with all the shipping and handling and import taxes plus the long shipping times I was quite frankly lazy to go through all of the hassle). I was super happy to see this exemplar in the April Wonder box mask pack so I did order it this time without any hesitation.

Claims from the manufacturer:

Couldn’t find the retailer webshop, so can’t say anything with certainty as I don’t read Korean to be able to translate for you what it says on the back side of the pack.

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Cyclohexasiloxane , Cyclopentasiloxane, PEG-32 , 1,2-Hexanediol , Isopropyl Palmitate , Isopropyl Myristate , Sodium Hyaluronate , Phenoxyethanol , Glyceryl Stearate , PEG-100 Stearate , Polysorbate 60, Acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, Arginine , Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer , Ethylhexylglycerin , Natto gum, Panax Ginseng Root Extract , Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance

My experience:

From the pack it smells like a flower. The essence is milky-white and not runny. The sheet was thick an very damp. Application was fairly simple and there was no mess at all. Once I applied it onto my face it started to smell more like coconuts.

I had some above average hopes for this Camelia oil mask. Unfortunately after the mask was off my face my skin felt like it still needed moisture. It also didn’t feel nourished. What I did like a lot is that my face didn’t have a hint of tackiness as it often happens. All of the essence seemed to be absorbed into my skin.

Pros:
+ Paraben, alcohol, sulfate-free ingredients
+ Pretty, girly packaging. Looks like traditional Chinese flower paintings
+ Nicely scented
+ Easy to apply
+ Good adherence to the face once it’s on
+ Skin is not tacky after application

Cons:
– No description in English on the back of the mask
– Difficult to find online within the EU shops
– Didn’t do much for my face
– Needs more cut-out edges for a better fit
– 3 of the current ingredients are comedogenic, people with active acne, watch out for this one

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: unfortunately the shop I bought it from doesn’t sell this mask loose
❇ Internationally: This mask is sometimes available on amazon and ebay websites, otherwise try the Korean online shops
❇ Price: Varies from 8-15€ for a 10-pack

Lange Paris Intensive Lightening Mask

Today I am reviewing my nr 1 skin brightening mask that does an amazing job at controlling my post pregnancy hyper-pigmentation spots. Let me present to you the mighty Lange Paris Intensive Lightening Mask.

Directions from the manufacturer:

Suitable for the sensitive skin, this lightening mask should be used 2x week. Cleanse the face and neck with the lightening lotion using a cotton pad. Apply mask in a thin layer and smooth it over the face and neck. Product should be almost transparent once applied. Wait 10 minutes and gently wipe away with a warm wet cloth. Rinse away the remaining residue with warm water. Pat your skin dry.

Claims:

❇ Inhibits melanin synthesis and skin pigmentation
❇ Eliminates superficial dead cells, excess sebum, impurities and toxins

Ingredients:

❇ Active ingredients:Sunflower oil (contains omega-3 and omega-6 which moisturise skin); Soy oil (firming, tightening, smoothing and reduces dark spots); Glycerin (moisturizer of vegetable origin); Bearberry Extract (contributes to skin lightening and acts on depigmentation areas); Arbutin (a natural derivative of hydroquinone that inhibits the activity of tyrosinase and thus reduces the production of melanin); Allantoin (softens dry skin and is a soothing, effective repairing agent that accelerates cell regeneration); Panthenol (soothing and moisturizing properties), and Bascillus ferment has soothing effect.
❇ Other ingredients:
Aqua (Water), Propylene Glycol, Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil), Methyl Gluceth-10, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Phenoxyethanol, Titanium Dioxide, Dimethicone, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi(Bearberry)Leaf Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Chlorphenesin, Methylparaben, Disodium Edta, Glycyrrhetinic Acid, Glycerin, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate.

My experience:

My first time using this mask around 2 years ago I hated it.  The skin turned bright red on the areas it was applied and I looked like a Rudolf the reindeer with a glowing-red nose. After few months that it was laying in my “meeh” products drawer I decided to try it again. I read the instructions, applied the mask, waited for  10 minutes and I was shocked how good it was. I couldn’t figure out what happened to me the first time so I just continued using it as normal.

At one point I thought “oh, let’s do a thicker layer, it will work better”. Boy, was I wrong. Same Rudolf the reindeer situation happened after 10 minutes of masking.  I’ve learned it the hard way with this one that following the instructions was important, especially in wash-off masks.

If I remember it correctly, I’m on the 3rd jar of this and I am definitely using  it twice a week in coming months. Sunscreen or not, my skin gets an increase in activity of all the pigmentation spots around spring-summer. After sunny vacations this one is a life-saver as well. In the winter 1x use is enough.

Pros:
+ Impressive brightening results! Meet’s the claims 100%  My pigmentation issues are under control thank’s to it
+ Luxorious packaging
+ Lovely mild marine scent
+ Creamy clay texture that doesn’t dry the skin out
+ Mask comes with a protective seal that you firs have to remove
+ Box contains the small plastic lid and the spatula for a more hygenic use

Cons:
– Hard to find in the stores
– Ingredients list is split into 2 halves so you don’t know what the actual order of the ingredients is (for me it is important for knowing the concentrations of things)
– Full price of 45€ is a personal downside since 🙁 I use it quite often

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: TKmaxx stores and at the Lange.fr
❇ Internationally: Available at amazon and Lange.fr
❇ Price is varying from the 17-45€ depending on where you get it from

It’s time for some skin care posts!

I’ve been on a tough skin care journey with finding out what works for me and what does not. Ever since I was 25 years old I had 3 holy grail products all from the Estee Lauder brand:

❇ Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II Serum
❇ DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Oil-Free Cream in SPF15 and SPF25
❇ Nutritious Radiant Vitality 2-in-1 Foam Cleanser

I thought I was set for life. How wrong could I be.

After getting pregnant my skin took a huge leap backwards even though I continued using exactly the same skin care items. It went so bad that I had to go to the dermatologist to find out what I was doing wrong. She stated that my skin went nuts due to the hormones and that the products I’ve been using were having plenty of preservatives and other irritating chemicals making my skin break out, flake, shed but still be super oily all at once. She also said “no worries, it will be back to it’s normal self after baby is born”. (Sorry doc, it didn’t)

With a heavy heart I had to give up my favorite skin care regimen. The only salvageable item for me was the EL night repair serum, but I ran out of the last bits of it in about a week time after my visit to the doc. Weeks went on and I started looking into other cosmetics with more natural ingredients as an alternatives to at least get some of the basic items such as night cream and serum. I could live without the other stuff as long my skin stayed well-hydrated overnight.

One of the highly recommended alternatives that I’ve found for the EL night repair serum was the MISSHA Time Revolution Night Repair Science Activator Ampoule. I’ve started looking into the other products that this company makes and I was surprised at how many great reviews it had. Eventually I bought the night activator ampoule and a gift box of the Super Aqua ultra-waterfull cream that came with the toner and the essence.

To cut the story short I loved them instantly! Everything was superb quality with great packaging, tons of healthy active ingredients and what is the most important, it worked for my skin that was raging on hormones! My kid is now nearing the age of 1 and I am still extremely happy with these products and continue using them on the daily basis.  Soon I will review each and every product that I use in my regimen in more detail. My stash of the products from the Super Aqua line by MISSHA has significantly increased since the first purchase and I am more than willing to share my thoughts on them with you as well.

Stay tuned and don’t miss the skin care posts coming out next week!

Yours truly, Kati 🙂

Experience so far:
After about month of use this sleeping mask has moved my nr 2 favourite (Lancome overnight recovery sleeping mask) to the 3rd place!!!!! The ultimate all-time favourite is still the Lange Paris Hydra-Global Active Cream-Gel 50ml (unfortunately not in production anymore).

I’ve used about 25% of the jar over the past month and will be definitely repurchasing this mask once I’m out. What I like about it is how hydrating and nearly not-sticky this is for a sleeping pack. I wake up rejuvenated and my skin looks like I’ve been pampered at the beauty parlor. After washing this off my make-up goes on effortlessly, that’s why I tend to reach for it the night before I need to look more-less presentable. This mask fights my lack of sleep for 100% (being a first time mom and all the sleepless nights are taking it’s tall).

Would I recommend it? YES YES YES and YES!

Pros:
+ Amazing effects after one use
+ Does not break me out
+ Does not break my piggy bank
+ Amazing ingredients and scent
+ One of the least sticky sleeping masks I’ve tried
+ Available in a lot of shops online with relatively short delivery times
+ Whooping amount of 100ml

The Body Shop Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask

This is my second jar of the Body Shop Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask from their Superfoods line. Spoiler alert! To be honest the whole Superfoods range is superb quality! But today I would like to talk more in detail  about the Amazonian Acai mask.

Every mask from this line is kept in an apothecary-like jars with dark glass so that the components won’t react in direct sunlight. Mask contains 75ml of product and I can get couple months of use out of it which is great!

Description from the manufacturer:
Give your skin a wake up call with our Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask. Inspired by the rituals of Amazonian tribes, our juicy 100% vegan face mask is a bouncy blend containing acai berry, guarana and babassu oil and is formulated without parabens, paraffin, silicone or mineral oil. This vibrant face mask exfoliates and invigorates sleepy skin to help it look wide awake. Use with our Facial Mask Brush for an energising facial at home.

Claims from the manufacturer:
❇100% vegan
❇ Fresh juicy face mask
❇ For skin that needs a fast recharge from signs of fatigue and stress.
❇ Invigorates, smoothes and fights the appearance of fatigue
❇ Ideal to create a facial at home
❇ Infused with acai berry, guarana and Community Trade babassu oil all from Brazil
❇ Formulated without parabens, paraffin, silicone or mineral oil

Application directions:
After removing makeup and cleansing the skin, use the Facial Mask Brush to smooth an even layer of the Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask onto the face avoiding eye and lip area. Apply to neck and décolleté if desired. Leave for 5-10 minutes then rinse off with warm water and a muslin cloth in circular motions to gently exfoliate. Use 2 to 3 times a week. Use various masks in different areas to target specific areas of your face.

Ingredients:
Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Polysorbate 20, Argania Spinosa Shell Powder, Luffa Cylindrica Fruit, Sodium Polyacrylate, Phenoxyethanol, Euterpe Oleracea Pulp Powder, Parfum/Fragrance, Carbomer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Limonene, Bertholletia Excelsa Seed Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil, Methylpropanediol, Disodium EDTA, Propylene Glycol, Paullinia Cupana Seed Extract, Citronellol, Geraniol, Citric Acid, Caramel, CI 17200/Red 33.

My experience:

As I’ve already mentioned in the beginning this is my 2nd jar of this gorgeous mask. The scent of this is so invigorating and throws me back to our  trip to Italy every time. We stayed in the hotel where they served home-made jam for your toasts and crepes for breakfasts. Yum!

Consistency of this mask is jelly-like. It is a bit tacky to the touch once you feel it straight from the jar and gets more sticky the longer you keep it on your face.  I always keep it on for 10 minutes  without following the steps of rubbing and scrubbing and it washes off effortlessly. If I keep it for longer it needs some scrubbing off to get the tacky gel off my face. Luckily the little grainy and fibrous particles of the fruit in this mask make it quite a simple task to achieve.

After I wash it off my skin is velvety-smooth and plump. It definitely evens out my skin tone except for the times if I was out in the sun for the whole day. In that case it actually stings my skin and makes it flushed. Since acai fruit is quite acidic, it irritates the sunburned skin instead of rejuvenating it.

I tend to gravitate towards the Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask on the days when I forgot to do my evening skin-care routine or on the days when we have rainy weather. It lifts my mood and my face 🙂 Overall this is an excellent product which meets it’s all claims. I will keep buying it again and again. I also appreciate a lot that the superfood masks are 100% cruelty free.

*Little tip for the new buyer. If you like the body shop masks as much as I do, try getting the “At-Home Facial Mask Experience kit” which retails for 80€ for 5 full-size jars of product. Unfortunately this mask line never runs on offer in NL and by investing into the kit can save some money by paying for 4 masks and getting 1 free.

Pros:
+ Meets it’s claims
+ Refreshing scent that lingers on your skin after you wash it off
+ Economic in use. I get around 20 uses out of one jar.
+ Excellent exfoliant
+ Perfect product for multi-masking as it doesn’t droop or move on your face once it is applied
+ Cruelty free and 100% vegan

Cons:
– Do not apply this mask after being in the sun, it will sting
– Heavy on fragrance, use with caution if your skin is extra sensitive
– Absence on discounts from the manufacturer on the Skinfoods mask series

Where to buy:
❇ NL nd BE: thebodyshop.nl
❇ Internationally: thebodyshop online and regular stores in your country of residence
❇ Price is 20€ per 75ml jar

According tot the MISSHA webiste the Purifying Care sheet mask is suitable for :

Water Glycerin Butylene Glycol 1,2-Hexanediol PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil Hydroxyethylcellulose Trehalose Allantoin Arginine Carbomer Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract Schizandra Chinensis Fruit Extract Coptis Japonica Root Extract Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate Disodium EDTA Sodium Hyaluronate Acorus Calamus Root Extract Panthenol Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer Mentha Rotundifolia Leaf Extract PVM/MA Copolymer Caprylyl Glycol Perilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract Fragrance

My experience:
I’ve gotten few of the masks from the Herb in Nude line to see what people around were raving about and to be honest I was not disappointed. Purifying care sheet mask comes in a lovely packaging with an image of the tea cup filled with tea and herbs that this tea is made of. I would describe it as simple and elegant. Upon opening the sachet I immediately smelled light herbal fragrance that reminded me of candy cane. I guess that was the apple mint scent. It was not revoking nor strong as mint can sometimes be.

I pulled out the sheet noticing immediately how thin and delicate it was. Once I held it in my hands I felt essence drooping down. I had to act fast and unfolded it open on the flat surface and only then applied it onto my face. I didi it out of the previous experience with such thin tissue masks that ended up me searching for the edges forever (Etude House 0,2 mm masks are equally thin).

Once the mask was on I felt instant hydration and was enjoying this sensation for full 25 minutes. Surprisingly I managed to do some cooking with mask being on my face and it didn’t move or came loose. Big thumbs up for that! Upon removal mask was still damp and I could still squeeze some of the serum out. Despite the fact that I was being a busy mom, due to the scent of the mask it was still very relaxing experience for me. I can imagine if I would do it before going to bed I would be sleeping like a baby.

Pros:
+ Perfect fit without any cut edges
+ Ultra thin sheet wit admirable serum absorption capacity
+ Meets it’s claims 100%
+ Soothes redness and is perfect if you are out in the sun a lot
+ Light pleasant fragrance which is very relaxing
+ Suitable for all the skin types
+ Paraben, sulfate and alcohol-free serum

Cons:
– Quite droopy essence, hence messy application

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: bbcreamshop.eu and littlewonderland.nl
❇ Internationally: Plenty of retailers such as roseroseshop and amazon have these continuously in stock.
❇ Price: Usually varies between 1,8-3€ per mask.

MISSHA Pure Source Pocket Packs

For some time I was oogling at these pocket pack masks from the MISSHA brand. I really like the concept of having several types of masks in little pouches that last you for 2-3 times. Water, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Alcohol Denat., PVP, Nelumbo Nucifera Flower Extract, Methylpropanediol, Trehalose, Allantoin, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Extract, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Caprylyl glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tropolone, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance.

Directions from the manufacturer:
At the last step of the skincare after washing the face apply an appropriate amount over face. 20-30 minutes later after it dries out completely, peel it off.

My experience:
All of the masks are definitely worth trying. Each one of them preformed well on my skin, didn’t make me breakout or  stick to my sheets. For me, my personal top 3 from this range are the Lotus, Rice and Green Tea packs.

Lotus pocket pack got me after 1 use! My heart melted at how easy it was to remove off my face. There was no pull or burn on my skin as it happens sometimes with the pore strips or those black pore masks. On the contrary, My skin felt hydrated and soft after use. I did feel that it did strip the oil off my face, so I did moisturize my skin with essence after this mask.

Rice pocket mask is quite mild exfoliant for me. It had a pleasant, non-offensive smell to it and was easy to spread around my face. I would reach for it for sure on the days that my skin is more sensitive than normal.

Green tea sleeping pack performance was as moisturizing and hydrating as other masks. I picked it over the others because I really like the yummy smell of it. All of the sleeping masks I’ve bought are quite similar in their action so I would opt for choosing the one whom fragrance you like the most.

Clay mask was as effective as any other clay masks. It purified my skin, left it nice and oil-free. Smell of this one is quite good too. Was worth trying but I doubt I would repurchase this one again. I have too many clay masks that to better job at moisturizing my skin on top of doing what clay usually does.

Pros:
+ Affordable and  good quality products
+ Big variety to choose from
+ Nicely fragranced
+ Peel-off pack is not painful to remove
+ Exfoliator pack is very gentle, hence suitable for the sensitive skins
+ Perfect for 2-3 times use
+ Ideal for traveling due to the handy format of these
+ Resealable packaging which ensures that the content stays sanitary
+ Suitable for all the skin types

Cons:
– Sleeping packs are kind of all the same except the scent
– Clay pack is not standing out from the whole bunch
– Manufacturer’s description in English makes me very sad. For such a big company  as MISSHA they should not Google-translate the text that they put on the label

Home and Body Company Star Power Gold Mineral Dust powder face mask

So today this happened!

No it is not baby food nor cereal that my daughter was throwing at me 🙂 Couple of days ago I’ve picked up a new  “gold” face mask (like I don’t have enough). Being all curious about it I’ve immediately decided to try it out and report back to you. What do I think of it after one use? It is pretty decent exfoliant! Yes, you heard me correctly. I will explain later. First of all let’s talk about the usual stuff.

Packaging:
Golden foil ziplock bag with 141,7 grams of powder in it.

Substance inside:
Grainy dry powder without scent. Has light pinky-yellowy hint to it.
Seriously, I was searching for gold speckles or at least glitter, to my disappointment none was found.

Claims:
Couldn’t find any on the package, neither online.

Application directions:
Pour 1/2 tablespoon of powder into your hand. Add water and mix until powder becomes a paste. Apply on face and leave on for up to 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water. Remember to spot treat first before applying to the entire face.

Ingredients:
oryza sativa(rice) powder, zea mays(corn) kernel meal, zea mays(corn) starch, sodium bicarbonate, kaolinite(rose clay), gold, cocos nucifera(coconut oil), parfum.(Thumbs up for almost all natural ingredients!)

My experience:
After NOT following the instructions to the letter (yeah I know I’m a rebel, I’ve mixed it in tiny bowl and applied it with the masking brush) I kept it on for 5 minutes. Mask remained the consistency of smashed rice pudding on my face till the very end of that time, not drying my skin out. So at this point I thought why not and scrubbed my face with it a bit. The result was impressive. After I’ve rinsed it off my skin was left smooth and squeaky clean. It was seriously as squeaky as it could get. I presume all the goodie ingredients have stripped the skin oil which is not a bad thing if you have a face that looks like a grease-ball by the end of the day. I think I will give it a go in the morning hours to prep my skin for make-up.

For the time being I applied my night-time skincare and headed off to bed. Upon waking up my skin was still smooth and had no breakouts. It wasn’t irritated either as it often happens once I do any abrasive scrubbing the day before. I’m positively intrigued and will continue experimenting with it.

Pros:
+ Multiple use product. I can easily get 15-20 mask out of a bag
+ Nicely packaged. I like that it is sealable so that all the germs stay out of it
+ Relatively low price for the quantity of product
+ Excellent exfoliator
+ Superb at removing the sebum and oil
+ Nearly all ingredients are of natural origin

Cons:
– Lack of information on the manufacturer’s website
– Absence of claims on the packaging. How else are we supposed to know what it is supposed to do to our faces?

Valcena Hydrating and Soothing tissue mask

Valcena is a French brand well known for it’s anti-age skincare products infused with rose extracts and oils. Not so long ago they started producing tissue (sheet) masks as well. You can choose from 3 types: honey (anti-age express), green tea (purifying) rose (hydrating and soothing). Today I went for the rose and honey version as I’ve already tried their green tea one.

The box holds 5 masks with 25ml of essence in the sachet. I picked these up in TKMaxx for 7,99€ each. According to manufacturer the hydrating and soothing mask intensely rehydrates and soothes the skin (Duuuh!). Rose Damascena, apple extracts and hyaluronic acid restore the skin’s moisture level and soothe irritation due to dehydration. The skin is soothed, soft and fresh. This mask is suitable for all skin types.

Directions from the manufacturer:
Once or twice a week, give your skin a “cocooning” moment using the single-dose mask which is applied like a second skin. Unfold the mask. Apply it to your previously cleansed face, adjusting it to fit around the eyes and mouth. Leave for 15 minutes. Remove the mask and encourage absorption of excess product by massaging gently.

Ingredients (not listed on the original website):
Water, glycerin, rosa damascena flower water, peg-7 glyceryl cocoate, panthenol, sodium hyaluronate, pyrus malus fruit extract, citric acid, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, polysorbate 20, xanthan gum, tetrasodium edta, ethylhexylglycerin, phenoxyethanol, parfum, geraniol, citronellol, limonene

My experience:
I slapped the sheet on quite fast. It is made of thicker babmoo fiber that adheres quite well onto the face. The sheet is well soaked and there is still a lot of essence left in the bag. The initial feeling is nice and refreshing and after about 5 minutes I started feeling slight tingling on my skin. I immediately was looking into the composition of this mask and noticed a lot of acidic ingredient down the list. Sensitive-skiners, beware! This mask has quite strong smell of roses (thus plenty of fragrance elements) + it has citric acid that is most likely going to irritate your skin. The tingling subsided after another 5 minutes and I started feeling the cooling effects of this mask.

I did enjoy the scent very much. It reminds me of rose gardens somewhere in Britannia 🙂 If you are keen on scented masks for relaxation, this would definitely be up your alley. After removing the sheet, there is plenty of essence left that absorbs fairly quickly. My face felt cool for the next couple of hours, which I enjoyed as well. It felt like my skin was plumped up a bit more than usual. On the downside my skin felt tacky after the essence was absorbed. I would not try to apply this in the morning and then put a make-up over it. It wouldn’t last.

Pros:
+ Sold in multipacks
+ Plenty of essence in the pack
+ Soft bamboo fibre sheet
+ Lovely fragrance
+ Good cooling and soothing effect on my skin that lasted for hours

Cons:
– Not really suitable for super-sensitive skins
– Strong scent
– Essence is a bit tacky
