Acai Berry Moisturising + Brightening sheet mask by Vitamasques

Today’s mask review is about the Acai Berry Moisturising + Brightening sheet mask by Vitamasques. I stumbled upon the 4-pack while shopping at Tkmaxx and want to share my thoughts on it with you.

Claims from the manufacturer:

Moisturizing + Revitalizing
A moisturizing Korean face mask made with extracts of the Acai Berry to tighten and smooth your skin. The acai berry has many antioxidant and healing properties for your body. Acai is not only good for the inside of your body, but also good for your skin on the outside.
Our Acai Berry mask gives your skin its much need multivitamin shot. All the way from the forests of the great Amazon basin, acai berry is loaded with Vitamins A, B, C, E and a number of antioxidants. It is a power packed nutrient dense berry good for not only your body, but also for your skin. With all its powers, acai is a perfect anti-ageing treatment you can offer your skin. To top it off, it has the most antioxidants among all berries available, making it the best skin food. One acai berry contains 10 times the amount antioxidants as grapes. Go ahead, nourish with the best. Your skin will thank you.
Inspired by Korean innovation, a triple layer sheet technology designed to enhance the moisture content within the mask and lead to an increased absorption rate within the skin.

Directions from the manufacturer:

Wash and cleanse your face in preparation for applying your face mask. Remove the mask from the packaging and place it tightly on the face avoiding the eyes and lips. After 10 – 20 minutes, remove the sheet from the face and gently pat your face to let the remaining essence absorb into the skin. It is recommended for maximum benefit that the mask be left on for an extended period. This will allow the serum to properly soak into the skin.

Ingredients (not listed on the manufacturer’s website):

Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract (10,000ppm), Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Glyceryl Stearate, Dimethicone, PEG-100 Stearate, Butylene Glycol, Paeonia Suffruticosa Root Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Carbomer, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Glyceryl Caprylate, Xanthan Gum, Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Disdodium EDTA, Fragrance

My experience:

To cut the chase, this mask is never going to be in my favorites. The composition of the essence together with the ill fit of the mask made this product an immediate fail for me.  The packaging of the Acai Berry Moisturising + Brightening sheet mask is very promising, nice description on the back written in excellent English, pretty front. What is there not to like? Once you open the pack you immediately sense the berry fragrance, light like a jam.

After taking mask out of the pack it was soaked in the white creamy essence.   I applied it onto my face struggling here and there. I would prefer to cut extra slits into the sheet because it is quite thick and mask tended to slide over my face. On top of it the sheet was not fully soaked in the essence leaving me with dry patches along the folding lines. Not a good start!

After keeping this mask for 15 minutes on the sheet was nearly dried out so I removed the mask and went to the mirror to check how much brighter my face got. Nop, not even a hue lighter. I was quite disappointed in that fact and went about my morning. After an hour time I accidentally touched my face and I instantly felt that it was extremely oily. Not regular sebum oily, but unpleasantly oily.  I immediately rinsed my face off and applied my regular moisturizer.

I would not known if other people have experienced the same with this sheet mask but to me it feels like it is absolutely not suitable for my skin. Biggest downside of it to me is the greasiness it left me with and the fact that it doesn’t brighten my skin. Moisturizing? Yes! Brightening? No! Something that it was supposed to be doing according to how it is named.

Pros:
+ Sulfate paraben and alcohol free ingredients
+ Cute packaging
+ Mild berry scent
+ Good instructions on the pack
+ Affordable price

Cons:
– Contains fragrance
– Does nothing to my face in terms of revitalizing
– Sheet is not evenly soaked in essence
– Sheet adherence is moderate to poor

Where to buy:

Internationally: Available at beautybay and manufacturer’s website
Price is 6,99€ per set of 4 sheet masks
