What is old? What is new?: Empties and new skin care products

Today is the day that I’ve decided to sum up the bunch of stuff that was swirling in my brain and to finally put it on paper. I’ve decided to shortly mention my favorite products that I have used up in last month or so and to finally introduce some new brands into my skin care. So today’s review is all about the Empties and new skin care products that are going to gradually appear on my blog.

Empties:

Nearly everything is gone till the last drop

I won’t be reviewing every sheet mask that I’ve use in the past month here, it is too much work for both me and you so the regular sheet mask reviews will appear as normal content. For al of the products mentioned in today’s post I will rate each product that I’ve used up according to the following score chart:

❇❇❇❇❇– Holy Grail, will probably purchase it up until I retire
❇❇❇❇– Excellent product, will consider repurchasing it (unless I stumble across a better alternative)
❇❇❇– Good one for overal use but there is definitely a better known alternative for it
❇❇– Not impressive or not performing well on my skin
❇– Waste of money (try before you buy)

Skin care

It’s all about the hydration

MISSHA Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence Intensive Moist 150 ml
Rating: ❇❇❇❇❇

Amazing quality! One bottle of this magic juice and lasts me approximately for 3 months. In order to stretch it out for that period of time I am decanting it into a spray travel bottle so that I can use my favorite whenever and wherever. Tip: perfect base for first couple of layers if you enjoy doing the 7-skin method.

MISSHA Time Revolution Night Repair Borabit Ampoule 50 ml
Rating: ❇❇❇❇❇

Great addition to the MISSHA First Treatment Essence. It smoothes and calms my skin like no other. I only use it in my evening skin care. (I used to apply it in the mornings too but I now have a lighter alternative for my skin needs). If you never tried it, go and buy it and your skin will love you eternally.

MISSHA Super Aqua Ultra Waterful Cream
Rating: ❇❇❇❇❇

Holy-moly-grail cream for me. The texture is light and silky, resembling a thick gel. Loving everything about it starting from the fresh cactus-like scent of it and ending up with the way it seals all the moisture on my skin. Who knew that my oily skin will love this so much!!!

MISA Geum Sul Emulsion
Rating: ❇❇❇

Love the smell and the packaging of it. Ingredients are very extensive and definitely benefit the aging skin. After going through the entire bottle I do notice the reduction in pigmentation and fine lines. Unfortunately at some days it felt like too much for my skin. If you have a dry skin, definitely give this one a go.

Lange Hydra-Global Active Cream Mask
Rating: ❇❇❇❇❇

Best used as a sleeping mask and not like it is advertised. Amazing skin tightening and hydrating results and zero breakouts. Loving it and had already purchased a replacement jar!!!

Cleansers

Cleansers

Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Purifying Gel 400 ml
Rating: ❇❇❇

Quite reasonable cleanser for oily and combination skin. I enjoy it’s light texture and used it every time in my morning cleansing. For now there are plenty of better low pH alternatives out there so I won’t be repurchasing this tube any time soon. It is very economic in use, the 400 ml bottle lasted me for half a year.

MERUMAYA Melting Cleansing Balm 100 ml
Rating: ❇❇

This particular balmy cleanser did nothing to my skin except leaving it greasy after washing it off. It does take the make off and doesn’t irritate the eyes but the finish of it that remained on the skin is unacceptable for me. Better get a good oil cleanser or the Clean it Zero balm for the same price.

Cellio It’s True Premium Real Honey Deep Cleansing Foam
Rating: ❇❇❇❇

I love this cleanser and currently it is my top favorite out there but I have a bunch of other brands lined up in my stash that I want to test first and see if this goodness will remain the ultimate winner. It cleanses my skin gently, leaving it hydrated yet free of all the dirt and grime. Impressive and smells nice.

Pore and pimple care

COSRX Clear Fit Master Patch
Rating: ❇❇❇

Pimple patches are my friends. This particular edition is OK but not the best one I’ve tried. I will stick to the classic COSRX acne pimple master patch or the Lioele patches.

Lange Matifying Mask
Rating: ❇❇❇

It was ok but not as high quality in terms of delivering immediate results as other products from this brand. Overall a bit disappointed with it. Still a good product for those who doesn’t want their skin to shrink like a prune during the application.

Body care

MISSHA Fresh Mint Cooling Body Sorbet
Rating: ❇❇❇

When it comes to the light fresh fragrance of it and feel on my skin after application, this is a clear winner for me. Unfortunately the hydration abilities of it are not spectacular. It is good for the summer or humid environment but not enough for my skin during the colder months.

MISSHA Near Skin Self Control Sticky Massage 200ml

Rating: ❇❇❇❇❇

OMG!!!! My holy grail for….. wait for it…. body!!!!! Whaat? Yep, you heard me! It perorms well on my face but concidering that the jar is 200ml I was never able to use it up within the 12 months since the opening. So here comes the boom- wiht the realization that container is humongous, I’ve started using it on my body and… It completely got rid of my Keratosis Pilaris on my arms. A one skin condition that was never influenced by anything in my life. I swear by this thing and am solely using the next jar on my body as the difference of my skin on my upper arms is tremendous.

P.S> It is not sticky as advertised in the name 🙂

New skin care products:

As for the new skin care, I’ve decided to expand my interests towards organic skin care and hunted down some fun stuff from the Japanese market. Sorry, no Hada Labo product reviews coming…. Yet 😉

Hello from Japan 🙂

Splurge alert !!!

For my birthday I’ve ended up investing into an entire set of Whamisa products. I have sampled each and every product before I bought them  and was quite happy after 1-2x uses. Sorry, my dear wallet, it just had to happen that I wanted them in full-size. Below you can find the list of items that I am already testing or will start testing out on coming Monday. There will be individual reviews of each product that will go live in November because that’s when I’m planning to do it.

I have high hopes for you, guys

Anti-aging products

Since I am going into the winter mode and I just turned 30, I’ve decided to invest into the Geum Sul line by MISSHA and got 3 unique products that stood out of the bunch with their ingredients and their potential use. I also got another version of the Near Skin Self Control Peeling massage thing-of-a-bobs to see if it is going to improve my Keratosis Pilaris any further.

MISSHA Geum Sul investigation continues

New brand in town

And of course  last but not least, after the Huxley skin care release I was extremely eager to try out their products and see myself what all the fuss is about. Considering that trying out everything full-size would put an enormous dent into my wallet I’ve opted for the set of miniatures that I am planning to take on my coming vacation in January. I also purchased the miniature set of their oils (which is currently flying across the ocean on one of the shipping courier planes). Soon I will be adding review about them too so don’t hesitate to check out my blog around January for the reviews on this brand.

Matcha Clay Pack by LEEGEEHAAM

Matcha Clay Pack by LEEGEEHAAM is a good clay mask if you want something that is easy to use and comes in a large container. If you don’t mind spending 20$/€ you should try it out. I should warn you though, it is not a holy grail product.

front
contents
Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ A wash-off type clay pack with antioxidant-rich matcha purifying and detoxifying dull skin. It helps to tighten enlarged pores as it dries, maintaining skin smooth and revitalized.
❇ Redness might appear right after rinsing off, which is due to the product’s tightening function.

Directions from the manufacturer:

Apply an appropriate amount on face gently. After 10 min, wash off with warm water.

Ingredients:

Water, Kaolin, Dipropylene glycol, Bentonite, Camellia sinensis leaf extract, Betaine, Silica, Butylene glycol, Montmorillonite, 1,2-hexanediol, Illite, Hydroxyacetophenone, Hydroxyethyl urea, Cellulose, Xanthan gum, Chromium oxide greens, Citric acid, Citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit oil, Disodium edta, Ethylhexylglycerin, Lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil

My experience:
texture is very watery yet thick

It reminds me of the L’Oreal Purify & Mattify Face Mask from thePure Clay series except that LEEGEEHAAM mask is much better version out of the two. If L’Oreal breaks me out like a beast, this one does a decent job at mattifying my face and temporarily tightening the pores.

Anyhow, do not attempt to apply it on an entire face. When this mask is dry after 10 minutes it tugs a lot on the skin. If you have a sensitive skin use it more-less like a spot treatment or just cover the necessary areas.

The mask is sea-foam green in color and the jar contains 110 grams of product which is a nice amount. The packaging is sturdy plastic that has very minimalistic logo on it and a brief description of the back. The scent is very fresh and not too strong. Mask itself is very soft and creamy but the consistency is a bit on the thicker side. With this particular product the less is more. More you apply, more it will tug on the skin irritating it…

just applied
after 10 minutes

The advised wear time is 10 minutes which ensures that the mask is entirely dry by the end of that time. When it comes to rinsing it off, it is a very pleasant experience. Mask comes off in very little time and requires minimal effort. After it is washed off, my skin is pleasantly hydrated but I still have an urge to moisturize my skin after 15 minutes. When it comes to the results, this mask is nothing special. It does diminish the appearance of my pores a bit and gets rid of my oil. It basically does everything other clay masks do. Overall it is a pleasant product but I would not purchase it again. There are many other masks performing better on my skin for much less $$ spent.

Summary:

Pros:

+ Easy to wash off
+ After use skin is decently hydrated considering this is a clay pack
+ Decent amount of product in the jar
+ Minimalistic packaging
+ Sulfate, silicone, alcohol, paraben free formulation

Cons:
– Pulling too much on the skin
– Not worth the price, there are better masks delivering better results at lower price point

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: littlewonderland.nl
❇ Internationally: Available at amazon and glowrecipe
❇ Price is 20,95€ per 110 grams jar

JiiNJU Coconut Face Mask

JiiNJU Coconut Face Mask is a capsule type of mask that contains 10 ml of product. You are supposed to rinse it off after use.

Claims from the manufacturer:

Super moisture

Directions from the manufacturer:

Apply the face mask to your cleansed face. Let your eyes, lips and hair free off mask. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes and then remove it with warm water.

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Paraffin, Kaolin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearic Acid, PEG-100 Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Magnesium Sulfate, Sodium Polyacrylate, Chlorphenesin, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Trideceth-6, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Fragrance

My experience:

This is the first product from the entire JiiNJU line that I wanted to try first. I like coconut cream and sheet masks because they are very hydrating for the skin. The packaging on this one is very cute and girly. The capsule is a little belly of the animal on the picture. In case of this capsule it is the belly of a little monkey.

The texture of the mask is opaque and creamy. It is white in color and smells like coconuts. The scent is quite strong and very artificial. I can live with it as long it is not licorice. Mask applies  well wit very little effort.  If I would want to be economic with this one, I could easily stretch it for 2 times use. Since I didn’t want to keep it in the fridge, I applied a thick layer of it onto my face.

After 15 minutes I started washing it off. It was still very liquid and due to the high glycerin content in it took me some time to completely rinse it off. My skin was left hydrated and soft. There was no sign of any brightening or any other effects except the moisture boost. I presume this effect is achieved by the high content of the glycerin and not thanks to the two herbal active herbal ingredients – coconut oil and aloe leaf extract. Overall, not impressive. I am not buying it again.

Pros:
+ Paraben, Sulfate and Alcohol free formula
+ Contains Kaolin
+ Nice creamy texture
+ Pretty packaging
+ Suitable fro dry skin

Cons:
– Contains fragrance and mineral oil
– Has only 2 plant based ingredients
– Potentially clogging for pores
– Not suitable for oily, sensitive or acne prone skin
– Strong artificial fragrance
– Claims and description of this product are very poor/non-existing

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: Kruidvat webshop and actual stores
❇ Internationally: Not available internationally
❇ Price is 2,99€ per 10 ml capsule

Lange Hydra-Global Active Cream Mask

Lange Hydra-Global Active Cream Mask is my go-to product that I always use when I am bored of trying out new products. You can call it a save haven product and I would totally agree with that.

front
back
Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ Intense and lasting moisturizing effect.
❇ Remarkable suppleness and an instant well-being sensation.
❇ Reduced signs of stress and fatigue.

Directions from the manufacturer:

Apply a thick layer on cleansed face and neck 2-3 times a week avoiding the eye contour area. Let the active ingredients penetrate for 10-15 minutes, then remove any excess with a cotton pad (soaked with a lotion).

Ingredients:

The only available information from the Lange website: Tropical Mango Butter (emollient, softening, regenerating, antioxidant and soothing), NATAMILK® Honey and Shea (moisturizing, nourishing, softening, soothing), Organic Horse Chestnut (tones).

Full ingredient list:

Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Isononyl Isononanoate, Dimethicone, Dicaprylyl Ether, PEG-8, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Methyl Methacrylate, PEG-Crosspolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Chlorphenesin, Fragrance, Polysilicone-11, Titanium Dioxide, Tromethamine, Galactaric Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Isohexadecane, Lilium Candidum Flower Extract, Passiflora Incarnata Flower Extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Hydroxycitronellal, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Silica, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Punica Granatum Fruit Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Polysorbate 80, Citronellol, Polysorbate 20, Geraniol, Aluminum Hydroxide, Linalool, Blue 1 (CI 42090)

My experience:

I first bought it around 4 years ago from the TKmaxx  store in UK after my most favorite mask from this brand was discontinued. It’s predecessor, the gel mask was my nr 1 most used mask for years and with this mask  I am compensating the loss of my favorite (R.I.P darling, we remember you). The Hydra-Global Active Cream Mask is the next best thing available from the  hydrating line currently produced by this French brand.

The cream-mask is a thick beige colored cream that spreads out well. It is non-sticky and has some light fresh scent to it. You can use this mask as a wash(wipe) off-treatment if you apply a thick layer on your face or use it as a sleeping mask (thin layer of product is advised). I usually go for option nr 2 because it is easier for me. I usually do my evening skin care routine that I finish off with this product applied last.

Once  applied it take about 10 minutes for the product to sink into my skin. After 10 minutes my skin feels very hydrated and there is very little residue left on my skin. I you apply it in a classic way you will be having the white cast as this is a cream mask so definitely clean it off your face afterwards. Since I use it overnight only I rinse it off in the morning.

What does it do to my skin? First of all it hydrates and does it very well. Being a cream mask, this specific mask is one of the few cream products that doesn’t break me out. On contrary it fights my existing blemishes and reduces the redness and inflammation on my skin. On the days when I don’t want to experiment with my skin care I always reach for it because I know my skin will look nearly perfect by the time I wake up. To me it is a good old faithful friend. What about you? Have you tried it?

Summary:

Pros:
+ Paraben, Sulfate and Alcohol free formula
+ Rich in anti-ageing ingredients and vitamine E
+ Contains UV shields
+ Suitable for the dry skin
+ Light pleasant fragrance
+ Ultra-moisturizing when used as a sleeping mask

Cons:
– Contains silicone and fragrance
– Less suitable for sensitive and acne prone skin
– Steep price

Where to buy:

❇ Internationally: Available at lange.fr and amazon

MISSHA Black Ghassoul Tightening Mask

I bought the Black Ghassoul Tightening Mask a a part of the MISSHA Black Ghassoul Pore Care Set on the bbcreamshop website. I am not new to mud masks so I pretty much knew what to expect from it.

outer packaging
contents
Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ The Black Ghassoul wash off mask is great for pore cleaning and tightening.
❇ It helps control sebum as well as skin troubles.
❇ The mask moisturizes and leaves skin with a refreshing feeling.
❇ Free of Paraben, Talc, Mineral Oil, and Fragrance.

Directions from the manufacturer:

Use 1-2 times per week. After washing face and applying Toner, get appropriate amount and spread evenly onto face, avoiding eye and lip areas. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.

Ingredients:

Water, Kaolin, Butylene Glycol, Bentonite, Propylene Glycol, Moroccan Black Ghassoul, Glycerin, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, PEG-100 Stearate, Palmitic Acid, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Stearic Acid, Charcoal Powder, Fomes Officinalis (Mushroom) Extract, Camellia Japonica Flower Extract, Rhus Semialata Gall Extract, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Bark Extract, Nelumbo Nucifera Flower Extract, Sanguisorba Officinalis Extract Pelargonium Graveolens Extract, Uncaria Gambir Extract, Titanium Dioxide, Polysorbate 20, Panthenol, Steareth-21, Dimethicone, Sorbitan Stearate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Xanthan Gum, Ammonium Acryloyldimethylaurate/VP Copolymer, Disodium EDTA, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, CI 77499

My experience:
texture

The Black Ghassoul Tightening Mask turned out to be a quiet powerful product for tightening up my pores. I’ve used one of the pore strips earlier today and there were some pretty big gaps on my nose. I’ve literally received this one together with some other MISSHA products today so I decided to do first impressions of it while it was sitting on my face.

The 95ml jar comes with a spatula for scooping out the product. The mask is dark grey in color and it is very thick so please do use spatula otherwise it is very difficult to pick up this mask with a brush. I tried to aplly it with my regular soft bristle mask brush but it picked up very little of the product. The spatula came in handy and I just spreaded it over my face with my small pore brush that is designed to reach well into the nose folds. Application with the hands is also possible and maybe even easier than making my brushes dirty.

First 5 minutes nothing happened. Mask remained moist and didnt change any color. After 10 minutes on my skin I felt slight tightening sensation on my nose and to me it was a cure to wash it off. Rinsing it out was quick and easy. My skin seemed brighter on the areas I’ve placed the product. The gaps from extracted earlier sebum were gone. There was no irritation or redness of the skin. The mask did a good job on evening my skin and shrinking the craters on the nose are. The only other skin care step this day was a spray toner to restore the moisture barrier of my skin.

applied

To sum up: the mask did what I expected it to do. It is very economical in use and a little goes a long way. I like this mask much more than the Ghassoul mask from the TooCoolForSchool that I’ve been using for shrinking my pores. There is no scent to this product and it has a decent price. The ingredient list is also very good. Will I purchase it again? Yes! Considering the amout of prouct in it it will probably be somewhere next year 🙂

Summary:

Pros:
+ Paraben, Sulfate,  Perfume and Alcohol free formulation
+ Contains charcoal powder and Panthenol
+ Rich in Vitamine E and Camelia Flower extract
+ Great purifying mask that tightens up my pores
+ Suitable for all skin types
+ Economic in use, the less is more
+ No fragrance

Cons:
– Contains Dimethicone
– Very thick consistency, hard to apply with the brush

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: bbcreamshop.eu and easycosmetic.nl
❇ Internationally: Available at missha.nl, misshaus and amazon webshops
❇ Price is 11,95 € per 95 ml of product

MINI CAPSULE PACK Deluxe Set of 4 Face Masks by The Face Shop

Today’s review is kind of 4-in-1 deal. After my recent trip to UK and raiding some shops there that sometimes sell the Korean beauty products (yes, TKMaxx, talking about you here) I finally laid my hands on the capsule masks. Unfortunately, the choices were sparse and the only capsules I could see there were from The Face Shop. Without further ado I present to you the glorious and the magnificent “MINI CAPSULE PACK Deluxe Set of 4 Face masks” or “the set” for short.

The set contains 4 mask capsules that contain 10 grams of product each. capsules are made out of brown nontransparent plastic and are covered with a protective seal. Overall, packaging is nice and my only complaints so far are the too long name of the set(way too long and impossible to remember) and the fact that capsules are filled 1/3rd of the way.

Application is same for all 4 masks: Massage onto clean skin, avoiding the eyes and mouth areas. Leave on for 10 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.

Below are the ingredients for all four masks together with more detailed description of the masks.

Aloe mask

Ingredients: Water/eau, glycerin, propanediol, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, 1,2-hexanediol, beta-glucan, acrylates/c10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, peg-32, betaine, potassium hydroxide, diethoxyethyl succinate, peg-60 hydrogenated castor oil, phenoxyethanol, citrus paradisi(grapefruit) fruit extract, xanthan gum, parfum, glyceryl acrylate/acrylic acid copolymer, disodium edta

Honey mask

Ingredients: Water/eau, glycerin, propanediol, honey extract, butylene glycol, peg-32, betaine, 1,2-hexanediol, panthenol, carbomer, dimethicone, potassium hydroxide, phenoxyethanol, ppg-26-buteth-26, peg-40 hydrogenated castor oil, disodium edta, sodium polyacrylate, theobroma cacao(cocoa) extract, parfum

Texture: Transparent gel, very smooth application
Scent: This one smells of raw natural honey that you buy from the farmer’s market. Scent is quite prominent in the pack but gets less strong when applied to the face.
Claims: Moisturizing

Pomegranate mask

Ingredients: Water/eau, glycerin, dipropylene glycol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, peg-32, cetearyl alcohol, peg-8 beeswax, peg-100 stearate, panthenol, glyceryl stearate, betaine, sodium hyaluronate, eclipta prostata extract, melia azadirachta leaf extract, punica granatum fruit extract, natto gum, moringa oleifera seed oil, zea mays(corn) starch, mannitol, propanediol, peg-240/hdi copolymer bis-decyltetradeceth-20 ether, caprylic/capric glycerides, 1,2-hexanediol, phenoxyethanol, carbomer, caprylhydroxamic acid, potassium hydroxide, parfum, disodium edta, butylene glycol, ethylhexylglycerin, microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxypropyl starch phosphate, iron oxides (CI 77492)

Texture: milky/yoghurt like cream
Scent: Light fruity fragrance
Claims: Resilience, Lifting

Rice mask:

Ingredients: Water/eau, propanediol, cyclopentasiloxane, domethicone, betaine, polysorbate 60, trehalose, glycerin, 1,2-hexanediol, panthenol, ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate/vp copolymer, microcrystalline cellulose, oryza sativa(rice) powder,peg-32, jojoba wax peg-120 esters, caprylhydroxamic acid, phenoxyethanol, acrylates/c10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, hydrogynated lecithin, dimethiconol, potassium hydroxide, cellulose gum, disodium edta, sodium hyalyronate, ethylhexylglycerin, parfum

Texture: semitransparent gel with crushed rice particles in it
Scent: Very light and reminds of Nivea cream
Claims: Brightening

Conclusion:
Overall interesting concept of capsules. All four masks behaved well on me without causing any breakouts. They were extremely hard to wash off which I didn’t like at all. I would not repurchase this set.

Pros:
+ You can get couple of uses out of each capsule
+ Great concept and packaging (I like when products have rather sealed sachets instead of huge tub that once opened can and will collect bacteria)
+ Perfect for vacations and short trips due to the small weight of the container
+ Great combo for multi-masking together with adorable scents
+ Would make a perfect present for a mask-o-maniacs
+ Each mask’s claims are met successfully
+ Quick and easy application/removal process

Cons:
– Capsules are 1/3 full, quite disappointing upon opening
– Hard to get in the shop, long waiting times if I would want to order these online
– Somewhat steep price for the set (+/- 15$ for total of 40 ml)
– Exhausting to pronounce name
– May be irritating for super sensitive skins out there

Where to buy:
❇ NL: try raiding your local TKMaxx store, you may find it there
❇ Internationally: thefaceshop and ebay
❇ Price is somewhere between 8-12 euros per 4 pc. set

Milk Mellow Dessert Pack by MISSHA

After my recent spike of interest in the wash-off type of masks I would like to present to you this Milk mellow dessert pack by MISSHA. This mask comes from the 3 piece dessert series of wash-off masks.

Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ Soothes, refreshes, and protects your skin from external irritants
❇ Contains milk protein and egg extract which prevent moisture loss
❇ Brightens skin for more even tone
❇ Pudding texture helps to make skin soft and elastic

Directions from the manufacturer:

Dry skin after washing and apply a moderate amount avoiding the eye line and lips. Wait for about 5 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.
Tip: Steam your face before application to open pores.

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Propanediol, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Dipropylene Glycol, Betaine, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Beheneth-25 Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol, Coco-glucoside, Butylene Glycol, Benzophenone-5, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance, Benzoic Acid, Milk Protein Extract, Egg Yolk Extract, Milk Extract, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Seed Extract

My experience:

First of all lets talk about the packaging! Lovely and practical, just the way I like it. The tub of this mask  has whooping 200 ml in it! It looks like a  yoghurt pack except the cap on it is a screw-off instead of being a thin plastic sheet.  All this is wrapped into paper with the instructions on the bottom.

Once you open the jar you’ll see a white thick gel that becomes transparent after application onto the face. I needed a large spoon to cover my entire face in a thick even coat. The scent of this gel reminds me of condensed milk. It is very mild and inoffensive.

The instructions say to leave it on for 5 minutes and then to rinse it off. I was struggling a lot with the wash-off part. The mask was so dense that water just glided off it. After some more fighting with it I took a wash cloth and removed the majority of the mask off my face and then proceeded to the rinsing phase. It worked much better!

My face was left smooth and soft and my deep wrinkles on the forehead were less deep. this effect has lasted me for approximately half a day and I did enjoy the fact that my face was nearly wrinkle-free. The hydrating power was excellent! My skin felt moisturized for an entire day. I didn’t need to apply any moisturizer after this dessert pack.

To sum up: I had my ups and downs with this Mellow Dessert Pack but in the end I am always left with the plumped and hydrated skin. I do recommend using it in the bath because washing it. off can sometimes be difficult. Using it in a bath ritual works for me! So definitely try it 🙂

Pros:
+ Paraben, sulfate and alcohol free formula
+ Very hydrating and nourishing on my skin
+ Pleasant clean scent
+ Contains UV filter
+ Nice cooling effect on a hot days (keep it in the fridge for more chilly feel)

Cons:
– Hard to remove off your face
– Contains fragrance
– May not be suitable for sensitive skin type

My experience:

At first I liked this mask but more I used it, more my opinion of it has changed. I purchased it around  3 months ago. I loved the way it is packaged, great quality glass, beautiful vibrant color, big size jar. Unfortunately this mask doesn’t come with an application spatula.

I still remember the first time I used it. It was so creamy and went on with a nice thin layer. I was surprised to find scrubbing particles in it but I did like their presence in (it makes it easier to wash off this mask off).  Back then I put a nice layer and covered my entire face and left the mask on until it was half-dry. Then just simply rinse it off, tone – you are good to go.

Couple of days later I reached for it the second time. That’s when it started acting wonky on me. I applied it for 3 minutes as it was advised by the manufacturer and washed it off. The next day my skin was feeling very textured and I couldn’t get rid of the feeling that my pores were ultimately clogged. So I did apply it for the third time and same thing happened.

I started poking the mask around and saw that it has a mica glitter powder in it. After you wash the wonder mud off your face, look closely and you will see some small golden-hue specks of glitter (fine milled powder) remaining on the skin. That was the reason that my skin was boycotting. I immediately stopped using this mask because it did me no good whatsoever.

Today I reached for it only to write this review and it is officially the last time I will use it on my face. The texture of this mask is very soft, creamy, almost whipped. It is highly scented with that artificial strong lemony(citronella) fragrance that lingers on top of your skin even after you rinse the mask out. To me it does nothing in the 3-minutes application time. My skin does not feel more hydrated or revitalized, it also doesn’t look any brighter, cleaner, calmer… Nothing.

The rinsing part is also so-so. If you let this mask on for longer than 5 minutes then it comes off much easier than after 3 minutes wearing time. Once I was washing it off my skin felt greasy (I presume there is a high content of glycerine it it). In order to protect my skin from the aftermath I had to go over with my foam to oil cleanser + toner to remove every last bit of it off my face. Unfortunately the Wonder mud did no wonders and left me extremely disappointed.

Pros:
+ Sulfate and paraben free
+ Contains vitamine E
+ Pretty packaging
+ Good texture of the product

Cons:
– Description on the manufacturer’s website is disturbing and not clear
– Contains alcohol and a lot of skin irritating ingredients
– Contains fragrance, beware it is very strong
– Not skin friendly for oily (which is weird considering it is a clay mask), acne prone and sensitive skin
– Does nothing good for my skin
– Does not meet it’s claims
– Overpriced for what it is

Morocco Ghassoul Cream Pack by Too Cool For School

Long time no see! Sorry for some quiet times on my blog page, I was on my vacation in sunny Cape Verde and internet was not so great there to publish anything.  I did bring a lot of things with me here so will make a post about what I actually used up in the two weeks time that I was there.

Today’s review is about the Morocco Ghassoul Cream Pack by Too Cool For School. This was one of those accidental buys that turned out into a pleasant surprise. The jar contains 100 grams of product and it will last me for a while.

Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ Morocco Ghassoul Cream Pack is a cream-type, pore-cleansing mask pack is formulated with 10% organic Morocco Ghassoul clay certified by Ecocert.

❇ It cleanses pores, nourishes the skin, AND evens out skin tone! Man what can this amazing mask NOT do?!. Micro particles of Ghassoul clay gently remove dead skin cells while refining skin texture for smother, clearer, and more youthful appearing skin. Also this formula is rich in vitamins and minerals which are packed full of natural amino acids. Finally, manuka honey gives a instant boost of hydration, promoting cell regeneration for damaged skin. The formula is further enriched with Herb Flower Complex, consisting of Edelweiss, Calendula, and Camomile that softens and soothes skin.

❇ Suitable for oily and combination skin types

Directions from the manufacturer:

1. Apply a generous layer to clean, dry skin. Leave on for 5~10 minutes.
2. Rinse off thoroughly with warm water and pat face dry.

Ingredients:

Water/Eau, Kaolin, Moroccan Lava Clay, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Bentonite, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Titanium Dioxide, Honey Extract/ Miel, Extrait de miel, Leontopodium Alpinum Flower/Leaf Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Ceteareth-20, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Panthenol, Triethanolamine, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Stearate, Methylparaben, Chlorphenesin, Allantoin, Xanthan Gum, Fragrance (Parfum), Disodium EDTA.

My experience:

The Morocco Ghassoul Cream Pack comes in a brown plastic jar. It contains 100 grams of  off-white colored clay which is very thick and somewhat creamy. I was struggling with application with my hands for the first time because I didn’t expect the play dough consistency. The mask just kept falling off my face. Once I figured out that the brush application achieves much better results it got much easier for me.

I apply this mask only on to the centre of my face leaving my chin and the largest part of my forehead area untreated.  Why? Because this mask is hard to wash off and I don’t want to scrub my face unless I do it with a product that is made for it. Tip! -> This mask washes off way easier if you use the same brush you applied it with and make the clay wet prior to washing it off.

I also tried to do a spot treatment with it on the emerging pimples on my face and wow! For this purpose the results are more than great! No matter if my acne was huge, red and angry or whether it was a small not dangerously looking zit. In all of the cases this mask reduced the swelling around the pimples and the next day they are as good as gone!

Pros:
+ Sulfate and alcohol formula
+ Good for oily and combination skin
+ Great pore tightening results
+ Perfect for spot treatment of emerging pimples
+ Great amount of product per one pack

Cons:
– Contains paraben
– No-no for a dry and sensitive skin
– Extremely thick consistency
– Hard to get within the EU webshops
– Best used for spot treatment, avoid application to an entire face

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: TKmaxx stores
❇ Internationally: Available at beautybay and toocoolforschool webshops
❇ Price is +/- 18€ per jar depending on where you get it from

Sisley Gel Express aux Fleurs mask (Express Flower Gel Hydrating Mask)

Today’s review is about the Sisley Gel Express aux Fleurs mask. This mask is  my least favorite from all of the masks I’ve tried so far from this brand.  Unfortunately it doesn’t do much on my skin in terms of hydration and removing signs of fatigue. The only reason I still use it is because it is quite good at evening my skin tone for those days when I am absolutely not in the mood for wearing makeup.

Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ BENEFITS
Express Flower Gel is a very fresh, moisturizing, and toning cream-gel mask specifically designed for dehydrated, lifeless, or tired-looking skin. Through its exceptional concentration of moisturizing active ingredients (Lily and Iris extracts), it regenerates (Sesame extract), hydrates, tones, removes traces of fatigue and stress, smoothes features, and evens the complexion in just 3 minutes.

❇ RESULTS
Skin is left toned and hydrated and features are smoothed. Signs of fatigue and stress fade away and skin is left looking magnificent.

Directions from the manufacturer:

Two to three times a week, apply to clean, dry skin on the face and neck, including the eye contour. Allow to remain on the skin for 3 minutes, then wipe away the excess. It is not necessary to rinse. This gel is ideal for restoring skin for a well-rested appearance before an evening out.

Ingredients:

Active ingredients (listed on the manufacturer’s website):
❇ White Lily: hydrates, softens
❇ Sesame: hydrates, protects, and regenerates
❇ Rose: Freshens, softens, astringent
❇ Iris: softens, tones

Full list of ingredients (not listed on the manufacturer’s website):
Water, Rosa Centifolia (Cabbage Rose) Water, Dimethicone, Iris Florentina Root Extract, Sorbitol, LiliumCandidum Flower Extract, Peg-40, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, SesamumIndicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Butylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Acrylates/ C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate, Crosspolymer, Octoxynol-13, Sodium Methylparaben, Propylene Glycol, ChlorhexidineDigluconate, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Geraniol, Citronellol.

My experience:

I bought this mask from the parfumswinkel.nl. Prior to buying it I tested it out in the store and was hoping that this mask will deliver as good results as the Black Rose Cream Mask.

The Express Flower Gel Hydrating Mask comes in a nice pale blue semi-transparent tube with a plastic seal. With help of the cap you can easily remove it and get to the product itself. Cream-gel is whitish in color and looks quite thick. Once you start spreading it out it turns into more gel like consistency and gives off light fragrance that disappears in seconds.

I tried using it for advised 3 minutes and didn’t like the fact that within that time it does absolutely nothing to my skin. The only thing I am left with is a sticky finish. Wiping it off with simple tissue won’t do. I have to use my toner to fully get rid off the tacky residue.

After trying it out in the different ways I do think that the best results on me are achieved when I leave it overnight just like with a regular sleeping mask. In the morning I rinse of my face and it looks more glowing and semi-hydrated.  I do have a big downside to report! It is packed with comedogenic ingredients that occasionally break me out when my skin is more sensitive than usual. Would I buy it again? Definitely not! I would rather splurge a bit more and get the Black Rose mask instead.

Pros:
+ Sulfate and alcohol free
+ Best suitable for normal or dry skin types
+ Light fresh fragrance
+ Light hydration effects on my skin
+ Evens the skin tone

Cons:
– Contains parabens and silicones
– Contains 5 comedogenic ingredients
– Not suitable for acne prone skin
– Overpriced for what it does
– Leaves a tacky film on the skin
– Sometimes it breaks me out

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: ICI PARIS XL and  Douglas shops
❇ Internationally: Available at sisley, amazon and many other webshops
❇ Price is +/- 95€ per 60ml tube
