What is old? What is new?: Empties and new skin care products

Today is the day that I’ve decided to sum up the bunch of stuff that was swirling in my brain and to finally put it on paper. I’ve decided to shortly mention my favorite products that I have used up in last month or so and to finally introduce some new brands into my skin care. So today’s review is all about the Empties and new skin care products that are going to gradually appear on my blog.

Empties:

Nearly everything is gone till the last drop

I won’t be reviewing every sheet mask that I’ve use in the past month here, it is too much work for both me and you so the regular sheet mask reviews will appear as normal content. For al of the products mentioned in today’s post I will rate each product that I’ve used up according to the following score chart:

❇❇❇❇❇– Holy Grail, will probably purchase it up until I retire
❇❇❇❇– Excellent product, will consider repurchasing it (unless I stumble across a better alternative)
❇❇❇– Good one for overal use but there is definitely a better known alternative for it
❇❇– Not impressive or not performing well on my skin
❇– Waste of money (try before you buy)

Skin care

It’s all about the hydration

MISSHA Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence Intensive Moist 150 ml
Rating: ❇❇❇❇❇

Amazing quality! One bottle of this magic juice and lasts me approximately for 3 months. In order to stretch it out for that period of time I am decanting it into a spray travel bottle so that I can use my favorite whenever and wherever. Tip: perfect base for first couple of layers if you enjoy doing the 7-skin method.

MISSHA Time Revolution Night Repair Borabit Ampoule 50 ml
Rating: ❇❇❇❇❇

Great addition to the MISSHA First Treatment Essence. It smoothes and calms my skin like no other. I only use it in my evening skin care. (I used to apply it in the mornings too but I now have a lighter alternative for my skin needs). If you never tried it, go and buy it and your skin will love you eternally.

MISSHA Super Aqua Ultra Waterful Cream
Rating: ❇❇❇❇❇

Holy-moly-grail cream for me. The texture is light and silky, resembling a thick gel. Loving everything about it starting from the fresh cactus-like scent of it and ending up with the way it seals all the moisture on my skin. Who knew that my oily skin will love this so much!!!

MISA Geum Sul Emulsion
Rating: ❇❇❇

Love the smell and the packaging of it. Ingredients are very extensive and definitely benefit the aging skin. After going through the entire bottle I do notice the reduction in pigmentation and fine lines. Unfortunately at some days it felt like too much for my skin. If you have a dry skin, definitely give this one a go.

Lange Hydra-Global Active Cream Mask
Rating: ❇❇❇❇❇

Best used as a sleeping mask and not like it is advertised. Amazing skin tightening and hydrating results and zero breakouts. Loving it and had already purchased a replacement jar!!!

Cleansers

Cleansers

Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Purifying Gel 400 ml
Rating: ❇❇❇

Quite reasonable cleanser for oily and combination skin. I enjoy it’s light texture and used it every time in my morning cleansing. For now there are plenty of better low pH alternatives out there so I won’t be repurchasing this tube any time soon. It is very economic in use, the 400 ml bottle lasted me for half a year.

MERUMAYA Melting Cleansing Balm 100 ml
Rating: ❇❇

This particular balmy cleanser did nothing to my skin except leaving it greasy after washing it off. It does take the make off and doesn’t irritate the eyes but the finish of it that remained on the skin is unacceptable for me. Better get a good oil cleanser or the Clean it Zero balm for the same price.

Cellio It’s True Premium Real Honey Deep Cleansing Foam
Rating: ❇❇❇❇

I love this cleanser and currently it is my top favorite out there but I have a bunch of other brands lined up in my stash that I want to test first and see if this goodness will remain the ultimate winner. It cleanses my skin gently, leaving it hydrated yet free of all the dirt and grime. Impressive and smells nice.

Pore and pimple care

COSRX Clear Fit Master Patch
Rating: ❇❇❇

Pimple patches are my friends. This particular edition is OK but not the best one I’ve tried. I will stick to the classic COSRX acne pimple master patch or the Lioele patches.

Lange Matifying Mask
Rating: ❇❇❇

It was ok but not as high quality in terms of delivering immediate results as other products from this brand. Overall a bit disappointed with it. Still a good product for those who doesn’t want their skin to shrink like a prune during the application.

Body care

MISSHA Fresh Mint Cooling Body Sorbet
Rating: ❇❇❇

When it comes to the light fresh fragrance of it and feel on my skin after application, this is a clear winner for me. Unfortunately the hydration abilities of it are not spectacular. It is good for the summer or humid environment but not enough for my skin during the colder months.

MISSHA Near Skin Self Control Sticky Massage 200ml

Rating: ❇❇❇❇❇

OMG!!!! My holy grail for….. wait for it…. body!!!!! Whaat? Yep, you heard me! It perorms well on my face but concidering that the jar is 200ml I was never able to use it up within the 12 months since the opening. So here comes the boom- wiht the realization that container is humongous, I’ve started using it on my body and… It completely got rid of my Keratosis Pilaris on my arms. A one skin condition that was never influenced by anything in my life. I swear by this thing and am solely using the next jar on my body as the difference of my skin on my upper arms is tremendous.

P.S> It is not sticky as advertised in the name 🙂

New skin care products:

As for the new skin care, I’ve decided to expand my interests towards organic skin care and hunted down some fun stuff from the Japanese market. Sorry, no Hada Labo product reviews coming…. Yet 😉

Hello from Japan 🙂

Splurge alert !!!

For my birthday I’ve ended up investing into an entire set of Whamisa products. I have sampled each and every product before I bought them  and was quite happy after 1-2x uses. Sorry, my dear wallet, it just had to happen that I wanted them in full-size. Below you can find the list of items that I am already testing or will start testing out on coming Monday. There will be individual reviews of each product that will go live in November because that’s when I’m planning to do it.

I have high hopes for you, guys

Anti-aging products

Since I am going into the winter mode and I just turned 30, I’ve decided to invest into the Geum Sul line by MISSHA and got 3 unique products that stood out of the bunch with their ingredients and their potential use. I also got another version of the Near Skin Self Control Peeling massage thing-of-a-bobs to see if it is going to improve my Keratosis Pilaris any further.

MISSHA Geum Sul investigation continues

More masks !!!

What mask-addict blog wouldn’t include the new masks. Ha-ha, definitely not mine. Over past 4 weeks I’ve collected a whole bunch of amazing looking masks from MISSHA and Hello Skin brands and will be doing the test-drives of these in coming weeks. So definitely stay tuned.

New revies are coming out soon

New brand in town

And of course  last but not least, after the Huxley skin care release I was extremely eager to try out their products and see myself what all the fuss is about. Considering that trying out everything full-size would put an enormous dent into my wallet I’ve opted for the set of miniatures that I am planning to take on my coming vacation in January. I also purchased the miniature set of their oils (which is currently flying across the ocean on one of the shipping courier planes). Soon I will be adding review about them too so don’t hesitate to check out my blog around January for the reviews on this brand.

Laneige Lip Sleeping mask (Berry)

Laneige Lip Sleeping mask is a very raved product on the web. I was avoiding testing it for as long as I could but with the latest hot summer my lips are chappier than they’ve ever been so I had to purchase it. Here is what I think of the Berry version of the sleeping mask.

Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ Lip Sleeping Mask has a softening balm texture that closely adheres to lips for quick absorption.
❇ Enriched with vitamin C and antioxidants, its Berry Mix Complex™ offers a nutritiously sweet and fragrant blend of raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, and blueberry extracts to indulge the senses.
❇ Exclusive Moisture Wrap™ technology boasts hyaluronic acid and minerals to form a protective film over the lips to lock in moisture and active ingredients.
❇ A generous layer of this soothing mask at bedtime helps reduce flakiness so you can wake up to lips that feel refreshed, supple, and soft to the touch.
❇ An exclusive technology that features a mineral network of moisture-rich beta-glucan to form an 8-hour time-release moisturizing layer over skin. It locks in active ingredients and mineral water.
❇ Rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants from a nutritious blend of raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, goji berries and blueberries, Berry Mix Complex soothes and softens, revealing smooth, supple lips.

Directions from the manufacturer:

Apply a liberal amount to your lips with the spatula at night. Gently wipe your lips clean with a tissue the next morning to remove dead skin cells.

Ingredients:

Diisostearyl Malate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Phytosteryl/Isostearyl/Cetyl/Stearyl/Behenyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Hydrogenated C6-14 Olefin Polymers, Polybutene, Microcrystalline Wax, Shea Butter, Synthetic Wax, Candelilla Wax, Sucrose Tetrastearate Triacetate, Hydrogenated Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer, Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer, Mica, Astrocaryum murumuru Seed Butter, Titanium Dioxide, Dimethicone, Aromatics, Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate, Dehydroacetic Acid, Methicone, Carnauba Wax, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, CI 15985, CI 15850, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Water, Potassium Alginate, Propanediol, Glycerin, Alcohol, Lycium Fruit Extract, Cranberry Fruit Extract, Strawberry Fruit Extract, Raspberry Fruit Extract, Sapindus mukurossi Fruit Extract, Blueberry Fruit Extract,  Rubus chamaemorus Seed Extract, Coffee Extract, Chenopodium quinoa Seed Extract, Magnesium Sulfate, Calcium Chloride, Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta-Glucan, Manganese Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Ascorbyl Glucoside

My experience:

The Lip Sleeping Mask from Laneige is available in 4 different scents: Vanilla, Berry, Grapefruit and Apple-Lime. These lip products claim to gently melt away the dead skin layer and to repair dry lips overnight. The little plastic jar contains 20 grams of product. There are also mini travel versions available in the web that have 3 grams respectively.

The packaging of this is very pretty. The container is made of matte plastic and the lid matches the color of the outside packaging. The spatula applicator of the berry lip mask is also the same color as the paper box the mask comes in. Inside the jar there is an opaque pink cream that looks like wax at the first glance but has a very soft texture. It resembles those vaseline-based lip glosses that melt over your lips and are not tacky to the touch.

I used this mask for 2 weeks daily and to be honest I don’t see much improvement in condition of my lips. And yes I drink around 4 liters of water per day so I am not dehydrated if you wee wondering that it may be the cause. What I did notice is that my lips were smoother to the touch. Unfortunately chapping part was not influenced at all. I tried to use the lip peeling scrub and the sleeping lip mask together before going to sleep. No success there either.

I am somewhat disappointed in this product. I  guess reading all the reviews online made me think it is a miracle product which it is absolutely not. Not for me at least. From my previous buys I can say with 100% certainty that the classic lanolin-based lip balm and madecanol balm work much better than Laneige when it comes to the lip care. I will still use this product but more as a daily lip gloss. Wil lI repurchase it?? No.

Pros:
+ Paraben and sulfate free formulaiton
+ Rich in antioxidants and hyaluronic acid
+ Nice amount of product in the jar
+ Beautiful packaging + bonus spatula for hygienic application
+ Softens lips without making them tacky

Cons:
– Contains alcohol and silicones
– Does very little to the lips in terms of hydration and moisture retention
– Expensive for a lip balm quality product

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: littlewonderland.nl and bol.com
❇ Internationally: Available at sephora, laneige.com and amazon
❇ Price is 18,95€ per 20 ml jar of product

MISSHA Dong baek (Camellia) Flower Sleeping Mask

Yes, yes I know, 2 reviews in one day!!! I’m trying to catch up with somewhat long break I had without being able to publish anything in-between.

“Camellia” is the English name for the Dong baek flower which is used in the MISSHA Flower Sleeping Mask. I liked the Rose mask a lot and simply could resist myself so I bought it as well.

Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ Containing 1,000ppm of fermented camellia oil from Jeju which is excellent for skin nourishing, it provides soft care for the dry skin that becomes exhausted during the day time.
❇ With creamy texture containing full nutrition, it plumps the dry skin with hydration.
❇ Soft camellia fragrance relieves you while you are sleeping.

Directions from the manufacturer:

At the last step of skin care, apply an appropriate amount, avoiding eye and lip area, and take sleep. The next morning, wash your face with lukewarm water.

Ingredients:

Water(Aqua), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycereth-26, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Camellia Japonica Flower Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Honey Extract, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Sodium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Trideceth-10, Xanthan Gum, 1,2-Hexanediol, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Fragrance(Parfum)

My experience:

Dong baek flower is a stunning flower that has been used in skin care for centuries. It has a special place in Asian history and there are several legends that surround this plant. I have tried several Camellia plant based products in the past and I’ve had only positive experience with it. (Well, maybe except the Illi mask…)

If I would compare this mask to the Rose one from the same series I’d tell you that there are several obvious differences in terms of color, texture, absorption rate and hydration levels. Oh wait I am comparing them 🙂

The Camellia mask comes in a yellow jar and contains 105 ml of product which is a lot. The texture of the substance inside is between cream and thick gel that is semi-opaque and white. The scent of this mask is a very pleasant, light, airy and floral. Once it is applied to my oily skin it takes about 10-15 minutes for it to be absorbed by the skin.  I feel like there is a light thin film left on my skin to protect my skin from drying out. One note that I made for myself is that it would be perfect to use in more colder months. Since it’s a thick gel formulation (much thicker than the Rose one) it would do a beautiful job when the air is cold and dry.

Upon waking-up there is no greasy film on my skin I can just simply rinse what’s left with my morning with just water. I still use my cleanser though because I like a squeaky clean face in the morning. Even after washing my face with foamy cleanser my skin feels well hydrated and that feeling lasts me for a long time. My make-up goes on flawlessly as well. To sum everything up I would definitely recommend it for the use on the cold time of the year or if you have a dry skin. And if your skin is super-duper-dry this mask would be an awesome skin care product for you! Yet again one more great product from MISSHA brand. I start to think they won me over with their products for life.

Summary:

Pros:
+ Paraben, sulfate and alcohol free formula
+ Perfect for dry skin
+  Contains Camellia seed oil and flower extracts
+ Light fragrance
+ Affordable price and easy to buy
+ Beautiful packaging

Cons:
– Contains fragrance
– Contains silicone
– Does not come with the application spatula

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: bbcreamshop.eu and missha.nl

Lange Hydra-Global Active Cream Mask

Lange Hydra-Global Active Cream Mask is my go-to product that I always use when I am bored of trying out new products. You can call it a save haven product and I would totally agree with that.

front
back
Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ Intense and lasting moisturizing effect.
❇ Remarkable suppleness and an instant well-being sensation.
❇ Reduced signs of stress and fatigue.

Directions from the manufacturer:

Apply a thick layer on cleansed face and neck 2-3 times a week avoiding the eye contour area. Let the active ingredients penetrate for 10-15 minutes, then remove any excess with a cotton pad (soaked with a lotion).

Ingredients:

The only available information from the Lange website: Tropical Mango Butter (emollient, softening, regenerating, antioxidant and soothing), NATAMILK® Honey and Shea (moisturizing, nourishing, softening, soothing), Organic Horse Chestnut (tones).

Full ingredient list:

Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Isononyl Isononanoate, Dimethicone, Dicaprylyl Ether, PEG-8, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Methyl Methacrylate, PEG-Crosspolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Chlorphenesin, Fragrance, Polysilicone-11, Titanium Dioxide, Tromethamine, Galactaric Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Isohexadecane, Lilium Candidum Flower Extract, Passiflora Incarnata Flower Extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Hydroxycitronellal, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Silica, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Punica Granatum Fruit Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Polysorbate 80, Citronellol, Polysorbate 20, Geraniol, Aluminum Hydroxide, Linalool, Blue 1 (CI 42090)

My experience:

I first bought it around 4 years ago from the TKmaxx  store in UK after my most favorite mask from this brand was discontinued. It’s predecessor, the gel mask was my nr 1 most used mask for years and with this mask  I am compensating the loss of my favorite (R.I.P darling, we remember you). The Hydra-Global Active Cream Mask is the next best thing available from the  hydrating line currently produced by this French brand.

The cream-mask is a thick beige colored cream that spreads out well. It is non-sticky and has some light fresh scent to it. You can use this mask as a wash(wipe) off-treatment if you apply a thick layer on your face or use it as a sleeping mask (thin layer of product is advised). I usually go for option nr 2 because it is easier for me. I usually do my evening skin care routine that I finish off with this product applied last.

Once  applied it take about 10 minutes for the product to sink into my skin. After 10 minutes my skin feels very hydrated and there is very little residue left on my skin. I you apply it in a classic way you will be having the white cast as this is a cream mask so definitely clean it off your face afterwards. Since I use it overnight only I rinse it off in the morning.

What does it do to my skin? First of all it hydrates and does it very well. Being a cream mask, this specific mask is one of the few cream products that doesn’t break me out. On contrary it fights my existing blemishes and reduces the redness and inflammation on my skin. On the days when I don’t want to experiment with my skin care I always reach for it because I know my skin will look nearly perfect by the time I wake up. To me it is a good old faithful friend. What about you? Have you tried it?

Summary:

Pros:
+ Paraben, Sulfate and Alcohol free formula
+ Rich in anti-ageing ingredients and vitamine E
+ Contains UV shields
+ Suitable for the dry skin
+ Light pleasant fragrance
+ Ultra-moisturizing when used as a sleeping mask

Cons:
– Contains silicone and fragrance
– Less suitable for sensitive and acne prone skin
– Steep price

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: TKmaxx shops
❇ Internationally: Available at lange.fr and amazon
❇ Price is  – 98€ per 50ml jar

MISSHA Rose Flower Sleeping Mask

I’ve been testing few sleeping masks in the course of last 1,5 months and want to share my thoughts on the Rose Flower Sleeping Mask by MISSHA. To me this is a perfect sleeping mask for the summer because it is so moisturizing yet light on the skin.

My experience:

From all of the new sleeping packs that I’ve been testing I reach for this mask the most. It has a very nice consistency and very natural scent that knocks me out into a good sleep.

This mask is a gel formula that is semi-transparent and has a light pink tint to it. It is not too thick nor too thin, just what I like in my sleeping masks. Once I apply it onto my face it transforms into serum-like gel which is very easy to spread over the face and you only need a little of product to cover the entire face. The fragrance is the bomb in this one! Very light and airy and doesn’t cause any headache.

What I love about this mask is how quickly it is absorbed by my skin.  Within 5 minutes I am left with no trace of the product on my face and there is no tackiness either. I appreciate it a lot because with the current warm weather, my face enjoys the light and fresh feeling this mask leaves on my skin.

Upon wakening there is no greasy film on my skin I can just simply rinse what’s left with my morning. cleanser and I am good to go. My skin always feels rested and hydrated. It is good for every-day use and the 105 ml jar is going to last me quite a while. Very happy with this new addition by MISSHA. They don’t seem to disappoint me on the sleeping mask front 🙂

– Does not come with the application spatula

The Cream Shop Rose Oil Overnight Gel Mask

If you are familiar with the Body Shop Bouncy Sleeping Mask then this The Cream Shop Rose Oil Overnight Gel Mask review is definitely for you!

Claims from the manufacturer:

❇ A sleep-in gel mask enriched with rose oil and its depuffing, anti-inflmmatory properties, reveals well-rested, silky skin even if you’re running on minimal hours of sleep!
❇ Made in Korea (poids net wt. 2.36oz/70g)

Directions from the manufacturer:

massage an even layer over clean, dry skin before bedtime. Concentrate on face, neck, or any areas that need extra moisture. Allow  to work overnight, no need to rinse. Wake up to hydrated, noticeably brighter skin!

Ingredients:

Water, Dipropylene Glycol, PEG-240/HDI Copolymer Bis-Decyltetradeceth-20 Ether, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, PEG-100 Stearate, Macadamia Integrifolia (Macadamia) Nut Oil, Dimethicone, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycereth-26, Caprylyl Glycol, Allantoin, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Adenosine, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Butylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, Rosa Centifolia Flower Water, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hyaluronate, CI 16185

My experience:

Who has ever tried The Body Shop Drops Of Youth™ Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask? If your answer is yes then you will immediately understand what consistency does this Rose Oil Overnight Gel Mask by The Cream Shop has!

Is it gel, gellato, jelly or cream? I still have no idea how they do it but it seems to have it all. Once you dig into the jar it separates like jelly with sharp edges and all. After a minute or so you don’t see the dent from your scooping in the jar. The surface gets perfectly smooth making it look like the product is new and hasn’t been touched.

Same on the skin. Upon the application it first goes on like old good clumpy silicone kit. Once you try to spread it out only more clumps appear. Then it starts to acts like cream leaving the white’ish residue on the skin. Once yo rub it in for some more time and the formula is heated by the skin it turns into thick gel(Gosh, too many words to explain, please see attached images).

The scent of it is a bit more of artificial rose. It doesn’t give you a headache but you definitely will think it is masking something that was put into the jar. after vigorous rubbing into my face and 15 minutes of drying time I am left with the sticky film on my skin. No matter if I use a thin or a thick layer, the end result is tacky-yucky.

Once I get up the net morning, the tackiness is nearly gone and my face feels plumped, hydrated and looks yummy. The hydrating results last on me for an entire day which I like but I doubt I will be purchasing it again. It takes too much time to apply and I can’t get passed the tacky town it leaves on my skin. Same as with The Body Shop one, it is just not my cup of tea. It does good things for the skin though, so if you are a fan of such bouncy masks, get it.

Pros:
+ Alcohol, paraben and sulfate free formula
+ Suitable for all skin types
+ Contains adenosine and vitamine E
+ Somewhat pleasant rose scent that is not overwhelming

Cons:
– Leaves a tacky film on the face
– Smallest amount of product I’ve seen so far amongst Korean sleeping masks
– Wicked consistency
– Long absorption time
– Contains silicone and fragrance

Where to buy:
❇ NL and BE: TKmaxx shops
❇ Internationally: Available at thecremeshop, amazon and  ebay
❇ Price is 11-15€ for 70g depending on where you buy it

Betula platyphylla japonica juice, Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Cyclopentasiloxane, Butylene glycol, Glycereth-26, Glycerin, PEG/PPG-18/4 copolymer, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan oleate, Betaine, Ethyl hexanediol, Dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, Glyceryl caprylate, Trehalose, Fragrance, Xanthan gum, Disodium EDTA, Carthamus tinctorius (safflower) oleosomes, Chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, Plantago ovata seed extract, Tocopheryl acetate, Hydrogenated lecithin, Polyglyceryl-10 stearate, Panthenol, Sodium ascorbyl phosphate, Glyceryl arachidonate, Glyceryl linolenate, Biotin, Folic acid, Pyridoxine, Cyanocobalamin

My experience:

E Nature’s Birch Juice Hydro Sleeping Pack is doing very little to my skin. I took it to the test run to the sunny Cape Verde and was quite disappointed with this product.

The manufacturer claims that this specific sleeping mask is intensely hydrating sleeping product due to the birch juice and other hydrating ingredients. Don’t want to upset anyone, but my daily clear cream (the completely transparant one) by MISSHA which is also birch juice based was doing a better job in terms of moisturizing an hydrating my skin. If you have a dry or very dry skin it would probably do nothing to your skin at all.

I do like that it contains 18 ml of product in it. Quite a good amount for the price. On the other hand it is still too much for a product that does so little. When it comes to the packaging, it is made very bulky making it look bigger than what the actual content is. I presume it is a traditional Korean style because few other “travel/mini” products from the brands like Laneige and MISSHA use similar if not the same jars. For me as a traveller, the size does matter. The smaller the container, the better it is for stashing it in my travel cosmetic bag.

You may wonder about how this cream actually looks and applies. The cream has a white gel consistency and has one of the thiner formulations that I’ve encountered so far. It is not entirely runny, but if I place a blob (pea size amount) of it on my skin it quickly slides down my face or drips off it. Sensitive skin people, be warned, this cream has a strong scent! It reminds me of a mixture of citronella and herbs. It feels like one of those masking type fragrances that are used to neutralize unwanted odors. The smell stays on your skin for a very long time, I could still sense it in the morning.

Upon wakening the scent was pretty much the only thing remaining on my face. Every morning when I used it I was left with mediocre hydration. It seemed that the cream just had enough moisturizing power in it that kept my skin from entirely drying out overnight in an air conditioned room. As for the other claims such as soothing, calming e.t.c. No results there at all. Zero. Nada. Null. Overall conclusion for this cream? Pass!!!

Pros:
+ Sulfate, paraben and alcohol free formulation
+ Main ingredient is Birch juice and not water
+ Contains vitamine E, Biotin, Folic Acid and Lecithin
+ Light texture that absorbs easily into the skin
+ Doesn’t break me out the next morning
+ Handy to take with you on a journey

Cons:
– Contains strong fragrance
– Very liquid formula for a sleeping mask
– Very little to no results on my skin the next day
– May not be suitable for very sensitive skin
– Packaging is quite bulky for the contents

My evening skin care routine

I promised last week that I will share my evening skincare regimen with you and today is the day! I will go more into detail into the products that I use in separate posts that are linked to the main one here.  If I would list everything in one page, reading this post would be equal to reading a book. So if you want more information, just click on the name of the product and you will be redirected to the review of the product and there you can read the full description and my experience with it. At the end of this post I will leave the links with where I got everything.

1. Cleansing oil or micellar water to remove the make-up:

I have current 4 favorites for that. The TonyMoly “The tea tree cleansing water” removes the BB cream and sunscreen effortlessly but I don’t remove my eye make-up with it. Lancaster express cleanser does a good job at removing the light eye make-up and 95% of the foundation/sunscreen. Etude house baking powder pore cleansing cream is an oil cleanser and is removing any type of make-up from face, eyes and lips whether it is waterproof or not. MISSHA’s Super Aqua perfect water deep cleanser removes everything as well but stings my eyes so I don’t usually remove any eye makeup with it.

2. Cleansing gel to make sure all the oily residue is off my face:

This step ensures that all the possible traces and leftovers of oil and makeup from previous cleansers are removed from my face. Being thorough in cleaning face in such manner changed my breakout status from “often” to “rarely”. My go to products are the Vichy Normaderm gel cleanser, Nature Republic Hawaiian deep sea mild scrub foam cleanser and the IT’s True Premium Real Honey Deep cleansing foam. All of these are foaming extremely well and do not leave a dry skin after rinsing them out.

3. Toner to prep the skin for the next steps:

In summer it will be 2 years that I use the MISSHA Super Aqua Ultra Waterful Active Toner. I am super happy with it’s gel-like consistency. A little product goes a long way. I apply it with super-thin cotton pads made especially for  products such as toners. That way you don’t waste your precious products. These pads are my life-savers for making my toners and make-up removers last longer!

4. Serum to enrich my skin overnight:

The Time Revolution Night Repair Science Activator Ampoule is a wonderful product if your skin needs extra moisture. What stuns me the most is how good it is at calming the redness of my skin. My skin feels smooth to the touch and is very supple thanks to this wonderful ampoule.

5. Essense or the emulsion for extra moisture:

I use the MISSHA Super Aqua Ultra Waterful Control Emulsion every 2nd day after the serum step. It has very rich creamy texture when it comes out of the bottle but once applied on the skin it feels more like a thick gel. I use 2 pumps to cover my entire face.

6. Sheet mask:

In the evening I gravitate towards the sheet masks that are wether hydrating (masks with sea algae and hyalyronic acid), soothing (masks with chamomile, calendula, rose oil and lavender),  purifying (masks with charcoal, tea tree oil) or  have detoxing (masks with green tea) properties.

7. Night cream:

I would not call the MISSHA Super Aqua Ultra Waterful Cream an actual cream. To me it is a very thick gel that sinks quickly into the skin without being sticky or tacky. The smell is absolutely divine. If i would need to describe it in 1 word I would definitely classify it as the smell of happiness.

8.  Face oil and sleeping pack (my optional step):

I use the MISSHA Super Aqua Ultra Waterful Oil seasonally, mostly in the end of the autumn and throughout the winter. You need to mix it with the night cream before the application onto the face. I also use a Biotherm Liquid glow oil which I mix with the Biotherm Skin best night cream on the evenings when I do a harsh acid skin peeling.

As for the sleeping packs, I am using these the night before I want my skin to look extra smooth and hydrated.  That’s about every 3-4 days. If I am on vacation I use them daily. My favourites are the Lancome Overnight Recovery Sleeping mask and MISSHA’s Super Aqua Ice Tear sleeping pack.

Experience so far:
After about month of use this sleeping mask has moved my nr 2 favourite (Lancome overnight recovery sleeping mask) to the 3rd place!!!!! The ultimate all-time favourite is still the Lange Paris Hydra-Global Active Cream-Gel 50ml (unfortunately not in production anymore).

I’ve used about 25% of the jar over the past month and will be definitely repurchasing this mask once I’m out. What I like about it is how hydrating and nearly not-sticky this is for a sleeping pack. I wake up rejuvenated and my skin looks like I’ve been pampered at the beauty parlor. After washing this off my make-up goes on effortlessly, that’s why I tend to reach for it the night before I need to look more-less presentable. This mask fights my lack of sleep for 100% (being a first time mom and all the sleepless nights are taking it’s tall).

Would I recommend it? YES YES YES and YES!

Pros:
+ Amazing effects after one use
+ Does not break me out
+ Does not break my piggy bank
+ Amazing ingredients and scent
+ One of the least sticky sleeping masks I’ve tried
+ Available in a lot of shops online with relatively short delivery times
+ Whooping amount of 100ml
+ Comes with an applicator spatula

Cons:
– From my experience none so far

MISSHA Pure Source Pocket Packs

For some time I was oogling at these pocket pack masks from the MISSHA brand. I really like the concept of having several types of masks in little pouches that last you for 2-3 times. For me it means that I can test several products out without spending a fortune on full-size items. As well as I am not stuck afterwards with a full jar of something I may potentially not like.

For a while these were sold out in NL online stores so I was waiting patiently until they got restocked. I purchased 8 types to try out out of which 5 were sleeping packs, 1 peel-off pack, 1 exfoliating pack and 1 clay pack. I grouped them according to the instructions on the packs. My experience:
All of the masks are definitely worth trying. Each one of them preformed well on my skin, didn’t make me breakout or  stick to my sheets. For me, my personal top 3 from this range are the Lotus, Rice and Green Tea packs.

Lotus pocket pack got me after 1 use! My heart melted at how easy it was to remove off my face. There was no pull or burn on my skin as it happens sometimes with the pore strips or those black pore masks. On the contrary, My skin felt hydrated and soft after use. I did feel that it did strip the oil off my face, so I did moisturize my skin with essence after this mask.

Rice pocket mask is quite mild exfoliant for me. It had a pleasant, non-offensive smell to it and was easy to spread around my face. I would reach for it for sure on the days that my skin is more sensitive than normal.

Green tea sleeping pack performance was as moisturizing and hydrating as other masks. I picked it over the others because I really like the yummy smell of it. All of the sleeping masks I’ve bought are quite similar in their action so I would opt for choosing the one whom fragrance you like the most.

Clay mask was as effective as any other clay masks. It purified my skin, left it nice and oil-free. Smell of this one is quite good too. Was worth trying but I doubt I would repurchase this one again. I have too many clay masks that to better job at moisturizing my skin on top of doing what clay usually does.

Pros:
+ Affordable and  good quality products
+ Big variety to choose from
+ Nicely fragranced
+ Peel-off pack is not painful to remove
+ Exfoliator pack is very gentle, hence suitable for the sensitive skins
+ Perfect for 2-3 times use
+ Ideal for traveling due to the handy format of these
+ Resealable packaging which ensures that the content stays sanitary
+ Suitable for all the skin types

Cons:
– Sleeping packs are kind of all the same except the scent
– Clay pack is not standing out from the whole bunch
– Manufacturer’s description in English makes me very sad. For such a big company  as MISSHA they should not Google-translate the text that they put on the label
